Your body notices things long before your mind is ready to admit them.

It notices the conversations that leave you drained. The rooms where you feel like you have to rehearse every word before you speak. The relationships where you’re always waiting for the mood to change. It also notices the people who make your shoulders drop, your laugh come naturally, and silence feel comfortable instead of uncomfortable.

We spend so much time questioning our instincts, but our nervous system is often telling the truth before we have the words for it. Pay attention to the places where you feel most like yourself. They usually reveal what your mind has been trying to figure out all along.

If you’re experiencing unexplained neck pain, shoulder pain, or frequent headaches, it could be referred pain from your gallbladder.

When you eat, your gallbladder releases bile to help you break down fat.

Bile is made of cholesterol and bile salts. When cholesterol is high and bile salts are low, it can result in bile sludge that clogs your ducts, applying pressure to the phrenic nerve. This causes referred pain in the neck and shoulder area.

Removing junk food and adding healthy fats to your diet is the best way to remedy this issue, but taking purified bile salts right after a meal can also help.

🦶 Cuboid Locking Mechanism: The Biomechanics Behind Lateral Foot Stability

The cuboid bone is a key stabilizer of the lateral column of the foot. It acts as a mechanical pulley for the peroneus (fibularis) longus tendon, helping transfer forces from the lateral side of the foot to the first metatarsal and medial cuneiform during walking and running.

During the late stance phase of gait, the peroneus longus contracts to plantarflex the first ray and stabilize the medial arch. As the tendon wraps around the groove of the cuboid, it creates a compressive force that helps "lock" the cuboid against the calcaneus. This locking mechanism increases the rigidity of the lateral foot, allowing efficient force transmission during push-off.

When excessive inversion, repetitive loading, or an ankle sprain disrupts this mechanism, the cuboid may become irritated or slightly malpositioned—a condition commonly referred to as cuboid syndrome. The altered mechanics reduce the efficiency of the peroneus longus, impair lateral column stability, and can lead to pain along the outer foot, difficulty during push-off, and reduced athletic performance.

Biomechanically, dysfunction of the cuboid affects more than just one joint. Reduced lateral foot stability alters load distribution across the midfoot, changes subtalar joint mechanics, and may increase compensatory pronation or supination depending on the individual's movement pattern. Over time, this can contribute to abnormal stress on the plantar fascia, Achilles tendon, and proximal kinetic chain.

Restoring normal cuboid mobility, improving peroneus longus strength, enhancing intrinsic foot muscle activation, and correcting faulty gait mechanics are essential for re-establishing efficient foot biomechanics. Rehabilitation should focus not only on pain relief but also on restoring the foot's ability to transition from a flexible shock absorber during loading to a rigid lever during propulsion.

A stable cuboid is a crucial component of efficient gait, powerful push-off, and injury-free movement.
