There was a time when I thought better content meant sounding more polished.

More refined.

More strategic.

More like the people I admired.

But what I’ve been learning is that clarity lands harder than polish ever will.

Because the right client is not looking for the most impressive wording.

She is looking for someone who understands what she needs, what she values, and what kind of experience she can trust herself in.

That is the shift I keep coming back to, less performing, more translating.

Less trying to sound like a brand.

More learning how to communicate what I actually believe, how I actually work, and why that matters to the person on the other side of the screen.

For me, content started changing when I stopped asking,
“What should I post?”

and started asking,

“What does my client need help understanding?”

That question changes everything.

It changes the way you write.
It changes the way you teach.
It changes the kind of people who start paying attention.

And over time, it does something even better than getting attention:

It builds recognition. Not just for your work, but for your perspective.

That is the kind of connection I’m interested in building.

You only have to be clear about how you want to feel and what you hope to see in the mirror.

When you’re with a competent colorist,
their job is to use their education, experience, and judgment to choose the how so you can focus on the why.

Trying to “project-manage” your own appointment with bits of information from the internet is usually where misunderstandings and disappointments start.

When I see other hairstylists share formulas,
I use them as inspiration, not a copy paste.

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever taken a formula
and put it straight on my client without changing anything.

I’m always going to customize it…more warmth, more neutral, a bit more depth or light, depending on their skin tone, what they like to see, and how their hair will fade.

I see the glaze as the sheer dress on top of the hair.

And I love mixing up different shades to get their version of brunette, blonde, or soft grey-blending tones.

If you’re a stylist, this is the fun part.

This is where you get to be creative.

Make your own shades.

Remember to always write them down. So when a client says, “Do you remember what you did last time?”you actually do.

One thing that helps me is saving their formulas
in their contact notes and updating them when we change the tone, think “autumn shade” vs “summer shade.”

Color formulas are not copy & paste.
They’re a conversation between the hair in front of you,
your eye, and your experience.

A lot of women think the problem is their grey hair.

we changed the strategy.

We did a full head of gray blending highlights and finished with a neutral brunette glaze so she could stay brunette, soften the contrast, and avoid that harsh grow-out.

That is what gray blending does when it’s done with intention.

It helps you keep depth and softness while making the regrowth feel far less aggressive.

If your hair keeps getting darker every visit
