🌻🐝 Growing Knowledge, Growing Community! 🦋🌿
What a beautiful day of learning, connecting, and giving back! I had the joy of working alongside my fellow Master Gardener Melissa Curtis as we participated in the Pollinator Census with our wonderful community at the Connie Hudson Senior Community Center and local childcare centers.
We brought together our seniors and our youngest gardeners to observe, identify, count, and learn about the pollinators that are so important to our food system and our environment. 🐝🦋🌸
There is something special about connecting generations through gardening. Our seniors share their wisdom and experience, while our young people bring curiosity, excitement, and fresh ideas. Together, we are planting seeds of knowledge that will grow for years to come. 🌱❤️
I’m so proud to be part of a community that believes in teaching, gardening, protecting our pollinators, and growing together!

🌱 First year growing sword beans on Dr. Nettles USDA Organic Farms! 🌱
We are always experimenting with unique, nutritious crops, and this year we harvested our very first sword beans! These beautiful, large-podded beans are a fun addition to our regenerative farm and a reminder that every season brings something new to learn. 💚
Sword beans (Canavalia gladiata) have been enjoyed in traditional cuisines around the world. They are a great source of plant-based protein, fiber, and important minerals. Like many legumes, they help support healthy soil by working with beneficial bacteria to fix nitrogen and improve soil fertility.
We’re excited to prepare them in the kitchen! Young sword bean pods can be cooked like other green beans—steamed, sautéed with garlic and herbs, or added to stir-fries. Mature seeds require proper preparation: they should be soaked, boiled thoroughly, and the cooking water discarded before eating.
From seed to harvest, we love growing foods that nourish our families, our community, and the soil. 🌿✨
