Everyone keeps inquiring “What is trichology?” It is the study of hairloss. The discipline is not studied widely here in the United States. Why not? To do so would push people away from the multi-billion dollar hair extension industry. Women want to look like they just stepped off of the cover of a fashion magazine and professionals will definitely capitalize off of the trend, even if it means sacrificing a healthy head of hair. The truth of the matter is the consistent installation of braids, wigs, and weaves are killing our hair follicles and causing traction alopecia at an alarming rate, particularly in our African-American communities. However, it is not the lone culprit. There are a number of factors contributing to our hair loss. Stress, poor diet, and hormonal imbalances are a few.

This is not a knock on anyone who provides hair extension services. I wear them and so do SOME of my clients, BUT I educate them on how to wear them to prevent or minimize damage to the follicle. Everyone is not a candidate for extensions.

As a certified trichologist, it is my desire and goal to help as many women as possible identify their hair loss issues and provide treatment or (in more severe cases) point them in the direction of a medical professional who can help us treat the issue. I’m excited about this new journey!!! Transformations Hair Restoration Center is coming in 2022!!!
