Today marks five years since I taught my first class as a licensed educator 🍎

I’ve wanted to teach since I was a kid. Back then, it was whatever grade I was in until middle school when I fell in love with reading and writing. For the longest, even when I was in cosmetology school, I was convinced I’d become a lit teacher.

Like many, I joined the hair industry as a fall back. I thought it would get me through college and prevent me from having to waitress or work retail. Jokes on me, I worked all three while I was figuring things out.

It was my first mandatory training class that changed my trajectory. It opened my eyes to what it exactly means to BE a hair stylist. It’s more than just hair, more than a salon, more than just a community.

We are artists, friends, and mad scientists. To the younger version of me that wanted to be a teacher: congrats, babe. We did it. Just… not in the way we originally pictured.
