Let me take you back to December 2021… before I had ANY idea what I was getting myself into. 👀

With a whole lot of faith in my heart I applied to lease a building I had walked past and instantly fell in love with. I had no idea what I was getting myself into… or that it would take until September 16, 2022 to finally complete the project.

At the time, I was just a girl thinking, “Okay… get the building, put some chairs in it, get some more clients, and boom we have a nail salon!” 😂

Oh, how cute and naive I was. 😭

Four years later, I’ve learned that yes… you still need the chairs and the clients. But baby, it is SO much more than that.

It’s the late nights.
The unexpected expenses.
The lessons in leadership.
The hiring. The training. The firing. 😩
The policies. The systems.
The customer service.
The marketing.
The repairs.
The reinvention.
The moments when you question everything. ( OFTEN )
And somehow finding the courage to keep going anyway.

I’ve grown as a business owner, a leader, and a woman.

And when I look back at the girl who signed that lease in December 2021, she had NO IDEA what was ahead of her.

But she had faith.
She had a vision.
And she had the nerve to try. ❤️

Four years of building. Four years of learning. Four years of evolving.

So today, I’m not just celebrating a business.

I’m celebrating the woman I became while building it.

Here’s the growth. ✨

Hey babes are you ready?

About a week ago, with all of the excitement on social media surrounding Black-owned nail salons, I found myself feeling a different kind of anxiety about my business. While I was grateful for the attention, I also wanted to protect the peaceful environment we’ve worked so hard to create for both our clients and our team.

So…boom.

I decided to take a walk-in.

Yes, me the owner of Inside the Nail Bar, with a fully booked schedule because I always want to lead by example and I had a cancellation.

A what appeared to be sweet young lady came in. I walked her through her polish options, gel or regular, completed her pedicure with a beautiful gel French finish, let her take pictures of her toes…then she walked to the front to pay.

And walked right out the door.

What makes it even crazier is that just before she came in, I had told another client that chaos of walk-ins made me a little nervous. Then this happened.

I’m not going to lie… it shook me.

But I refuse to let one bad experience ruin what I know can be a beautiful experience for so many others.

I didn’t make a scene. I didn’t tell my next client. I didn’t tell my staff or my family. Instead, I went to the park, took a walk, and talked to God.

I’m only sharing this now because I want to be transparent.

In four years of owning this salon at this location, this has never happened. I also don’t want this to become a trend.

I don’t know what someone’s previous salon experiences may have been, but I want people to know that negativity is not what we’re building here.
