Hi Beauties 🤎
Earlier, I told you about my fibroid diagnosis, the covering physician who handed me one option, and the second conversation that changed everything. I asked you to tell me your story if any part of it was yours too.
You did. And one reply stopped me cold.
A woman named Grace wrote to tell me that decades ago, her mother, also a Black woman, was told by more than one doctor that a hysterectomy was her only option for fibroids. Her mother had a science background. She knew that wasn't true, and she fought for the care she deserved.
That fight happened before Grace was born. It was her mother's only pregnancy. She named her daughter Grace, because that's what she was, a gift, almost lost to the exact same bad advice I got thirty-plus years later.
"If she had listened to what they told her, I never would have been born."
Read that again. A doctor's shortcut, and a mother's refusal to accept it, is the reason a specific person exists. That's not an abstract statistic. That's someone's whole life.
