Bija Beat blends art, music and culture in dance classes designed to help people express themselves through physical action, and do good in the process. Founded by Tracy Straus, the Artistic Director of the Colorado-based nonprofit organization Celebrate the Beat (CTB) and the Artistic Associate of National Dance Institute (NDI), Bija Beat is the marriage of fitness and artistic exploration, engaging students on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. Bija Beat classes are based on the motivating and inspiring teaching techniques of acclaimed dancer, choreographer and National Dance Institute founder Jacques d’Amboise. Utilizing live music, visual presentations and choreography based on varying themes, the classes are physically and mentally uplifting and challenging.
“Bija” is the Sanskrit word for seed. A portion of each class fee funds transformative arts education programming for children in schools through the award winning methodology of National Dance Institute.
The chakra system is an ancient framework of seven energy centers in the body, each linked to our physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
‘Chakra’ means wheel in Sanskrit, and each one has its own color and qualities. Balancing them through this simple exercise is a beautiful part of our Bija Beat journey.

Our classes are inspired by the NDI method, developed by Jacques d’Amboise.
High energy. Live music. Inclusivity. Joy. All infused with the belief that dance can reach parts of you nothing else does.
And we go beyond the physical, into the mental, emotional, and spiritual too. It’s not just a workout. It’s an hour to quiet your mind, move through what you’re carrying, and remember what it feels like to be free in your body.
And more than the transformation you can experience, every class you take transforms other lives too–every class you take funds Celebrate the Beat, a non-profit for children in under-resourced schools, to support them in getting access to dance and arts education.
