I just stumbled upon this 2020 documentary and was moved to see my own backyard at The Cowrie Shell Center in Brooklyn featured at 9:32. 🌿✨ To witness the beautiful Black women gathered in that sacred space I created for community, held in such light, filled me with gratitude. The film itself is a powerful offering — exploring how race, identity, and hair intertwine, while holding a compassionate lens on the lived experiences of African descendants. Seeing my space and community included reminded me of the sacred work and resonance that flows through us. As a master pioneer in the natural hair care industry, I have long held the vision that our crowns are not just styles, but sacred testaments of identity, health, and ancestral pride. To witness that truth reflected on screen — in my backyard, with beautiful Black women gathered — affirms the path I’ve walked for decades, nurturing natural hair as both a lifestyle and a spiritual journey. Gratitude for beauty of the backyard being included in this feature. 🙏🏽
