Yesterday, we lost a true pillar of history. Mother Viola Ford Fletcher, the oldest living survivor of the Tulsa Massacre, transitioned at 110 years old and left behind a legacy that will continue to shape generations.

It was an honor for Teknique Agency to support the official portrait captured for The Washington Post, a moment that allowed the world to see her strength, dignity, and unwavering spirit. Mother Fletcher embodied resilience and truth. Her presence reminded us why storytelling matters, why justice matters, and why we must keep speaking her name.

May we continue the work so the world never buries her story.

Rest in power, Mother Fletcher.

Let it be truly inspiring and motivating to realize that like many powerful Black Women from the past have done, owning our individual power, being determined to bring our visions to life, and breaking free from stereotypes, misjudgments, and fear changes our history for the greatest good. We as women use our innate abilities of identifying issues that would typically be overlooked, quickly implementing solutions, and nurturing the things we care about to propel our society forward in ways that only a WOMAN could. They way we think, accompanied by our deep innerstanding and overstanding of our world has allowed us to fill gaps and find solutions to problems not many people would've thought of as such. We are thrilled that is the new Supreme Court justice. Having one of our own in such a high position within our government can bring the reform and advocacy our country needs.

As the saying goes, "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."🎯

And it's true!

If you're an artist (and even a barber), hosting a kit-swap with your fellow artists can work out in your favor more than you know. It's so important to maintain strong relationships with fellow creatives, especially those in your city. The perfect way to refresh your kit and keep in touch with artists is to host a kit swap! Get rid of products and tools that no longer bring you joy (shout out to Marie Kondo!) that are just taking up space in your kit and replace them with products that you always wanted to try. One person's trash is another person's treasure.

Let's end the week of RIGHT with a quick mantra:

"My positive attitude, confidence, and hard work naturally draws in new opportunities." 🙌🏽💅🏽✨

As a Makeup Artist, Hair Stylist, Wardrobe Stylist, and Crew Member, it's important to understand set lingo to increase your presence and to step into the full capability of your role on set. 🎥✨

Here are important terms to remember:
• Day Player - A crew member hired for only one day or a few days of work.
• Unit Base - Where the makeup, costume, and cast trailers are located, as well as crew parking and catering.
• Hot Set - A set that is currently in use for filming or needs to be left in the way it is because filming will resume in the future.
• Cowboys - A shot that is framed just above the knees of the subject.
• Hot Point - Yelled when carrying something with the potential to hit someone.
• Last Looks (aka Finals): Phrase to call in hair, makeup, and wardrobe to give final touch-ups to talent before a scene is filmed.
• Video Village - Where viewing monitors are placed
• Crafty - Craft services and/or person
• Last Man - Refers to the last person to get their food at meal breaks; usually used because lunch did not officially start until the last man has gone through.
• Back In - Phrase meaning meals or any break is over and work has resumed again.
• Abby Singer - The second to last shot of the day.
• Martini - Last shot of the day.

As a creative professional, it is vital that you plan or participate in test shoots at least twice a quarter to consistently have fresh content to add to your portfolio, social media, and other visual assets you can provide to potential clients. So, today, we'd like to shed light on how to get the most you can out of a test shoot:

1. Prepare.
2. Create mood boards on Pinterest to organize your ideas.
3. Source models from boutique agencies and social media.
4. Create a call sheet.
5. Create a shot list to list different camera/video shots.
