Some helpful reminders ahead of the busy holiday markets:
1. Please respect the hours of the market and shop within market hours. I have noticed a lot of folks arriving earlier and earlier to markets (especially the farmers market) and expecting to shop early. Vendors have set hours to make sales fair for everyone. Also we are already out there for 6+ hours, sometimes longer. If you arrive early, it’s cutting into my set up and prep time and time I need to decompress and focus ahead of a busy day. Please respect boundaries and don’t try and shop if a vendor is not set up yet.
2. I am only one person with one mouth and one brain. I can only help one person at a time. You can listen when I explain a product to another customer so I don’t have to repeat myself. But don’t interject or interrupt in the middle of a sales transaction and start asking me questions about how to use a product. I have a shpiel and all questions will be answered within said shpiel. For busier markets I will have a helper sometimes. It helps me to form a line and not bombard me all at once. It’s extremely overstimulating and I will lose my train of thought.
3. Please do not ask me how to make a product or trade secrets. I had someone ask me how much essential oils to buy to make shower steamers, when that is the main product I make and it’s taken me 5 years to perfect my technique. I will never reveal any information about how I formulate products. That has taken me almost a decade to perfect each product process. To ask me how to make something when I’ve spent so long perfecting my process instead of just buying my finished product is insulting.
4. Please order ahead for local pick up whenever possible. This will help me figure out how many of each item to make. Especially the coastal shaped steamers or the moisturizer bars. All of my items take me a very long time to make and I will focus on the best sellers if I don’t know what specific items or scents you want.
5. Don’t ask me or any other vendor for discounts or deals. This is not a flea market where you haggle. These are artisan shows with people who work very hard to produce items. I rarely if ever offer any deals. Ingredient prices have only increased steadily and same with credit card processing fees. I have never increased my prices.
