Rituals are fleeting in the early months of fatherhood. They really do change in a blink, as any parents will lament. These days, just having a moment of stillness in the shower feels like high luxury.
Before Aidan was a week old, I watched as the steady stream of water calmed and soothed him for the first time. He’s 6 months now, and our shower is still one of the sweetest moments of our day.
No one will be surprised to learn my simple skincare routine began within a week or two after meeting Daron. Before that I would just use water or even worse, men’s body wash. (Dun dun dun!) Now it’s a dollop of Honey Bamboo Scrub in the shower and a few pumps of Mushroom Mylk after drying off, adding a little to my towel-dried hair. I wonder if Aidan will adopt
any of his papa’s routines.
It looks like bathtime will be the thing before too long, and an old ritual will make way for
the new.
