I have been very fortunate and experienced my share of success in my professional life and for that I have always been very thankful. Having said that, little did I realize, I was about to embark on an experience that would make all of my previous successes and experiences pale in comparison! However, one very sad aspect to our business is that approximately 60% of our customers are people going t
hrough treatments for cancer or other medical problems that have resulted in extensive hair loss. Having experienced cancer myself I can completely relate to how these customers are feeling and what they are experiencing. And although it is one of the sadest things to see it is also one of the most rewarding things we have ever done! We have had customers from 5 to 80 yrs. old going through these treatments. We can almost instantly sense the despair, pain and yes sometimes even the embarrassment they are feeling. That's when we know it is time for us to do our job and preform our magic! When we can help them find something they love and actually feel comfortable wearing it is amazing how it lifts their spirit. Their whole attitude changes and you see them transform right before your eyes! For the time in a while they seem to forget about the problems they are facing and start feeling pretty great! Most people are unaware of how much the wig industry has evolved. They never think they could wear a wig and it be completely undetectable! They are so amazed at how they look and feel. I never realized or really even thought about this aspect of the business until we purchased the store. Brandi helped a very reluctant, sad little 10 year old girl that came in with her mother who was also somewhat reluctant but desperate to help her daughter. Before long Brandi had her in the perfect wig for her age and just the style she wanted. By the time she left our store she was laughing and hugging my granddaughter. The mother couldn't believe her daughters reaction. She was so appreciative and commented that she and her husband thought it would be a very long time before they would see their daughter laughing and happy again. That my friends, is real meaning of success! We have contacted Oncologists and hospitals in the Orange County area and many refer their patients to us. We offer these customers a 15% discount, excellent service and our undivided attention! We are also very active with the NEGU organization. NEGU stands for NEVER EVER GIVE UP and it is an organization that offers moral support to families and kids with cancer. It is a very rewarding feeling to know that you can make a difference in someones life; put a smile back on their face and a little pep in their step! This is what I was referring to earlier. Prior to opening The Big Wigs I only THOUGHT I knew the feeling of accomplishment and the experience of success. Brandi and I both have a new outlook on life and look forward to each day and the possibility of helping another person who may be going through trying times in their life. Now we know the true feeling and meaning of success!
