Proof that less is sometimes SO much more! ✂️
My client has very fine curls and they were feeling super weighed down, stretched out, and totally losing their bounce.
When you have fine hair, gravity is real! Extra length adds extra weight, which pulls your curls straight at the root and flattens your shape.
The fix? ✂️
A curl by curl haircut tailored just for her. By taking off just a bit of length and adding some soft layers, we were able to instantly lift the weight, bring back her spring, and get some gorgeous, airy volume.
If your fine curls are feeling a little limp or tired lately, it might be time for a curl shape-up to bring them back to life!

Inspo photo vs. customized reality! ✂️✨
When my beautiful client came in the other day, she had pretty, long, one-length hair with no layers. Her goal? An inspiration photo with tons of layers, massive volume, and defined texture.
During our consultation, she mentioned that she usually air-dries her hair. The truth about curly hair is that while air-drying is great for a time saving way to dry while creating a softer look, you simply cannot get that massive voluminous look without a diffuser!
To make sure we gave her a new look without shocking her, we decided to “dip our toes in the pool instead of diving in.” 🏊♀️ We added beautiful movement (aka layers), but kept it a bit more conservative than her inspo pic so she could get used to styling it herself.
We finished her appointment by discussing how to properly diffuse for maximum volume and definition at home.
Swipe to see the beautiful bounce and movement we achieved!

Trying to achieve volume and definition is a delicate dance.
If you go for extreme volume, you might sacrifice definition.
If you go for extreme definition, you might sacrifice volume.
Finding the middle ground between the two of these can equal your happy place. It’s knowing when to encourage clumps and definition, and knowing when to ruffle the hair up a little bit thus creating a little bit of frizz which can actually be the support beams that your Curls actually need.

The “L” word
I often refer to layers as “the L word”.
Simply hearing the word layers can strike fear into the heart of some. I’m here to tell you that they don’t have to be scary. They don’t have to look like shelves.
They can be beautiful!

Why is no none talking about discovering your curls later in life??
It’s no secret that our curls can be directly related to hormonal changes, especially for those of us on the looser side.
Enter puberty and BAM your hair texture can change from stick straight to wavy or even curly (which is what happened to me).
Have a few babies and again, BAM a massive change in your hormones can cause your hair texture to change.
The one I think we’re not really expecting is that massive hormonal change that happens later in life (you know, the big M).
I hear it all the time how women have gone there entire lives without any curl pattern whatsoever and then all of a sudden after being blessed to have celebrated..ahem..a few more birthdays, their textures changes and they are thrown a curveball! Now what?
My first bit of advice when you’re experiencing disconnection in your shape thanks to your new curls, learn about how your product choices can hinder or benefit your new found texture.
Secondly, experiment with product application techniques. Don’t be afraid to change it up.
Also, reach out to your friends or colleagues with curls to see what advice they have to offer. Pretty much every curly girl likes to share their wisdom.
And seek out a curl specialist near you. We’ll be able to guide you through the crazy curl underworld and help get you and your curls on the road to truly embracing your curls.

Sometimes a visit with your curl specialist isn’t always a transformation. Often it’s about just tweaking the shape and then diving deep into your current curl routine and learning ways to enhance that routine.
Which is exactly what the doctor ordered for these beautiful curls🤗

As busy moms, we are notoriously putting ourselves on the back burner. Whether your babies are to 2, 10 or 20 years old, they become our priorities as they should be.
I hereby give you permission to wear your hair in a knot bun, maybe skip your gel all together or ditch the make up. But every now and then,
we’ve got to revisit ourselves and find out exactly who we are through self-care and self-love 🤗
Comment below if you can relate.

Goodbye
disconnected curls.
HELLO
hydrated
and blended curls!!
Ever think your curls have lost their mind? Why do some sections of your hair look much longer than others, even though every hair on your head typically grows at the same speed. Why do some curls simply show more length?
It’s all based on your spring factor. Looser curls are going to show length much quicker than tighter curls. This is because the tighter Curls are too busy, spinning in a circle while looser curl are basically humming along on an even path all the way down.
So, what’s a girl to do?
Getting a dry cut will enable your stylist to see all the different spring factors in your curls and know how much to take off of each one. For instance, you might end up needing more length taken off of the looser curl patterns and only a dusting on the tighter curls, so that everybody is visually even.
