He earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts in Boston before receiving his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. He completed his residency and served as Chief Resident at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
