Tips & Toes Salon will be closing early today at 2:15 PM and will remain closed through October 31st.

We’ll be back and ready to see everyone again with our normal business hours on November 2nd.

Have you ever known someone who makes you smile every time you think of her? ❤️

That person is Amy Berghoefer for me.

I had the chance to meet Amy roughly 20 years ago, and all these years later, she continues to support Tips & Toes—not only by coming to the salon herself, but also by constantly referring clients our way.

Amy is a hairstylist, so our businesses naturally have clients with many of the same needs. Through the years, we’ve shared good news, frustrations, parenting stories, work stories…you name it, we’ve probably talked about it. 😂

Many times I’ve shared with Amy and some of my other clients that growing up in Vietnam and then coming to the United States at age 15 gave me the opportunity to experience two very different cultures. I’ve always tried to take the qualities I admire from both.

One quality I’ve especially admired in people like Amy is generosity—not only giving financially, but giving your time, your heart, and yourself to someone else.

Amy chose to become a mother by adopting Adam when he was only a few months old and giving him a loving home and every opportunity she could. And, of course, Adam gave Amy something in return—a whole different kind of joy…and probably a few headaches she had never experienced before! 😂

Parenting has never been easy. Raising my own children, there were plenty of times I wanted to pull my hair out! So I have tremendous respect for Amy and for people who choose adoption and willingly take on the lifelong responsibility of loving, guiding, and raising a child. That kind of commitment takes a very big heart. ❤️

But Amy’s kindness doesn’t stop there.

I still remember one time when a client wasn’t treating one of our staff members very kindly. Being the business owner, sometimes you are put in a difficult position and have to choose your words carefully. Amy didn’t hesitate. She stood up for us and addressed the person—firmly, but politely.

That is Amy.

She notices when someone needs support, and she isn’t afraid to speak up.

But don’t let all that sweetness fool you! 😂 Amy can pull a prank on you with a completely straight face. She is always coming up with something to make people laugh, and you never quite know what she’s going to do next.

Kind. Generous. Loyal. Funny. And someone who has supported our little business and our family for nearly two decades.

The world could definitely use a few more Amys. ❤️

Tips & Toes Salon will be closed beginning at 2:15 PM on October 8 through October 31. We’ll resume normal business hours on Monday, November 2.

We’ll be very busy leading up to our closure and again right after we return, so if you’re hoping to get in, please book ahead as soon as possible. 💅 We’ll be working extra hours and opening Sunday by appointment before we leave to accommodate as many clients as we can.

We do accept walk-ins during normal business hours when availability allows, but appointments before and after our closure will be limited.

The first day of fall calls for warm copper nails and a little touch of sunshine. ✨ We love when the season starts showing up in our clients’ color choices!

A little note from my heart ❤️

Exactly one month from today, Tips & Toes Salon will celebrate our 21st anniversary. 🥹❤️ And after almost 30 years in the nail industry, I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful people along the way.

Some clients have stayed with us for many years, some for a season of their lives, and some have eventually moved on—and that’s okay.

Over the years, I’ve heard that some former clients feel guilty or uncomfortable because they started going somewhere else. I want to say this from my heart: please don’t.

Life changes. Schedules change. Needs and preferences change. Sometimes you try somewhere new and discover that it’s simply a better fit for you. You never owe us an explanation, and there are no hard feelings. ❤️

Of course, we’re human, and we miss people we’ve grown fond of. But I would much rather remember the conversations, laughter, milestones, and years we shared than have anyone feel guilty or uncomfortable about making the decision that is right for them.

To everyone who continues to support Tips & Toes, thank you. Your loyalty means more to us than you probably realize.

And to those whose paths have taken them somewhere else, thank you, too. I’m grateful our paths crossed, whether it was for a few appointments or many years.

And if I see you at the grocery store, please don’t hide in the next aisle. 😂 Come say hello! Sometimes we share a chapter of life, and then our paths go in different directions. That’s simply part of life.

As we get ready to celebrate 21 years of Tips & Toes next month, I’m feeling especially grateful for every person who has been part of our story along the way.

A quick note about gel manicures & curing lamps

We occasionally hear, “Can I get gel polish without putting my hands under the light?”

Unfortunately, no — gel polish needs to be cured under a gel lamp in order to harden. That curing process is what makes gel polish gel polish. 😊

You may have seen information online about UV exposure from nail lamps. Our modern LED gel lamps cure each layer very quickly, so your hands spend only a short amount of time under the lamp during a manicure. LED gel lamps do use UVA wavelengths to cure gel, but using an LED lamp does not mean your hands are sitting under a traditional tanning lamp.

If you’re still concerned about exposure, UV-protective fingerless manicure gloves are an option. We don’t recommend applying sunscreen, lotion or creams immediately before your service because residue on the nail can interfere with proper preparation and adhesion.

And if you prefer no curing lamp at all, we completely understand — traditional nail polish is a great alternative. ❤️

We want our clients to feel comfortable asking questions, and we’re always happy to explain the products and equipment we use.
