The lesson will keep repeating itself until you learn it!

For me, I’m a bit of a people pleaser, believe it or not, and I really struggle with trying to make everyone happy. An impossible task!

My biggest lesson has been learning to put the business first and ask myself what the business can actually support, rather than trying to give everyone what they want.

A perfect example is staffing. I may find someone who is absolutely amazing and would be such a great addition to my company, but their schedule doesn’t align with what we actually need. In an effort to get them on the team, I might let that slide, only to end up in the same situation all over again, feeling frustrated and resentful.

It’s so important to make decisions based on what’s best for the business. Not to be mean or difficult, but to avoid creating more problems for yourself and eventually resenting people for situations you actually created!

I’ve realized that SO many of the problems I used to have were problems I created myself by making exceptions that didn’t make sense for the business.

I’m getting much better at this, but it definitely makes hiring harder because you have to be more intentional about who you hire, what you accept, and the compromises you’re willing to make.

That’s not to say there isn’t room for compromise in working relationships. Of course there is! But if you constantly need help on Saturdays and you hire someone who can’t work Saturdays, you’re setting yourself up for the exact problem you’re trying to solve.

Sometimes being a better business owner means getting comfortable disappointing people instead of constantly disappointing yourself and your business.

This has been SUCH a big lesson for me, and one I’m still learning!

What do you feel has been your biggest lesson as a business owner? I’d love to hear from you! ❤️

🎨 INNERSENSE COLOR PURITY SHADE CHEAT SHEET! SAVE THIS! 👇

One of the biggest learning curves when working with a new color line is understanding the tonal families and how they interact with underlying pigment!

Here’s a quick breakdown of the Innersense Color Purity shades:

🤎 N = Natural — Cool-based naturals for balanced, neutral-looking results. For someone who wants very cool add the Ash to them!

🧊 A = Ash — Green and blue-based tones that help neutralize unwanted warmth.

💜 V = Violet — Great for counteracting yellow and creating cooler results. Very vibrant!!! 10V to tone will be VIBRANT - use 10n and a ribbon if V for very cool - their n series at the lighter level runs VERY cool. Their 5V runs a little dark because of how pigmented it is! For brighter purples level up and add red!

💛 G = Gold — Adds warmth, brightness and golden reflection. Absolutely love their gold series!

🧡 C = Copper — Orange-based tones for rich, warm copper results. These are extremely popular in my salon their coppers are extremely bright and beautiful! Their 8C as a copper blonde toner with some 9G eatsssss!!

❤️ R = Red — Red-based tones for vibrant, rich reds. They are VIBRANT!!!!!

🍷 M = Mahogany — Brown, violet and red tones for deeper, richer results. Obsessed with this shade, the 4m is iconic and I use it all the time!! For gray coverage 100% I would recommend adding an N if they are resistant it will still be vibrant and beautiful!

✨ INTENSIFIERS: AA, VV, GG, CC and RR boost their corresponding tonal families. (Not a gray coverage shade but can be added to them!) obsessed with the CC and the GG! I use the GG in most of my toners!

🤍 CLEAR: Dilutes tonal intensity and helps customize softer shades and pastels. Haven’t played with this too much but heat it’s great to do more with the line if you need to customize or if you are wanting something more shear!

PRO TIP: Not all Naturals or Ashes have the same underlying tonal base at every level! Understanding the level AND the tone makes a huge difference when formulating!

Save this for the next time you’re mixing Color Purity behind the chair! 🎨

IYKYK 😂 Does Instagram still like long-form educational content?! Because I loved sharing this with my team today, so I figured I’d share it with you guys too!

We took this client last minute and WORKED OUR MAGIC ✨ Me and Gabby Saucier🩷🕷️| CT STYLIST | VIVID/ALT HAIR | CURLY HAIR did a full highlight, and in between the foils we used:

1 oz 6N + ¾ oz 6G + ¼ oz 6C + 10 volume

We let everything process and then mushed it together for the last few minutes.

At the sink, we toned with 2 parts 9G + 1 part 8C + double 5 volume using Innersense Color Purity.

I was nervous it was going to be too bright for her… but she wanted MORE 😂 So we went back in and overlaid 8C + double 5 volume for another 10 minutes.

The end result was SO pretty, dimensional and rich, and most importantly, her hair looked and felt amazing. 🤌

And a huge shoutout to Meg Meg | HAIRSTYLIST and Alicia Alicia Sliwka for jumping in and helping us make her day. 🥹 It really takes a village sometimes behind the chair!

Should I share more formulas + breakdowns like this?! 👀 Innersense Pro
