The first day of fall and it is a gorgeous one in Portland. The sun is still shining and the mornings are cooling down. Such a lovely transition to the next season. Here are a few seasonal reminders for your skin care:

-You still need spf everyday even when its not sunny (those pesky UV A rays damage even through the clouds).

-As the temperature drops and heaters go on indoors and in cars, moisture in the air goes down. This means your skin will need more hydration day and night. Add a humidifier to your room, add an oil on top of your moisture at night, use a heavier day moisturizer and try to drink more water.

-Fall is a great time to add a few chemical peels to your treatment plan. A little less time being outdoors helps ensure less exposure to sun as your skin heals. A chemical peel once each month will have your skin glowing in time for holiday shin digs!

-And go ahead and look at the schedule to book your treatments for the rest of the year. Do you need lashes lifted or brows tinted and shaped before Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years...get it scheduled now so that it's one less thing to worry about at the last minute!

-Because I think it's fun, all in-stock Eminence masks will be 50% off again for the whole month of October! Also, there are some price increases in some services. Any appointments already booked will still be the price listed when booked and any appointments booked now and in the future will be the price listed on the booking site.

Happy HAW-lidays!

I feel like if you say it like Frank Sinatra sings it, it's more fun. And maybe even a little sarcastic? I do love this time of year... even though my brain often feels like a ball of yarn that my cats have gotten a hold of.

I hope everyone is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. There have been some cancellations here and there on my schedule, so even when it looks full, check back for last minute openings. And let me know if I can help you with any gifting needs this season.

Other than that, I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for sharing your lovely selves and faces with me through the year. Thank you for sharing your stories, your advice, your recipes, your happy and sad life moments. It all means so much to me. Thank you for your generosity and for supporting me and my (sometimes limited) schedule while I get to raise my daughters. I am so very, very fortunate to know you all.

Please enjoy some moments of stillness and calm amidst the chaos. I am wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Its Fall. Its Cozy.

And the holidays are coming for us all.

Yes, the skeletons may return to their closets. The spider webs can be swept away. And now we must begin to dream of sugar plums dancing in our heads, dinner menus, grocery lists, clean sheets for the guest beds, gifts for one and all and how to maintain peace and civility as the family gathers.

It is fun. But it's also stressful to get everything done and create magical memories as you go. And stay sane.

I wish I had some fabulous tips for keeping it all together... I do not. New year, same you...

I hope everyone had a lovely holiday season. Now I hope everyone is settling back into normal and getting a bit more rest!

While I love the idea of fresh starts and 'new you's', I want to embrace the same me, with scars and all, and give her better habits. Habits and consistency, I'm finding, are the way to create a life that feels good one day at a time. Nothing magical and nothing extreme. Just simple routines that add health to each day. Adding a new habit may start out as a force of will to accomplish but I have found that after I realize the difference it makes for the way I feel, I start to feel incomplete without doing it (hey exercise: you really do make me feel good!). What simple habits can you add to your day that will add to your sense of well being?

Of course, I am here to champion the effort for a solid, twice daily skin care routine. If you already have that dialed for yourself, I am so proud of you and I'm sure your skin shows it! You may move on to adding other habits like drinking more water or tackling that marathon run this year.

I wanted to spread the word and recommend this wonderful production of the nutcracker happening this weekend. It is based on the history of Fort Vancouver with the classic Nutcracker music and it is truly magical. All of the dancers are local and I would bet anyone that they will forget that these dancers are not grown professionals…they are amazing young students! I hope the theater is packed for every performance. It’s also a bargain compared to other holiday productions. Get in the spirit and get tickets!

So much to do.

It never fails for October to bring feelings of slowing down, wanting to be cozy at home and turning in early as the nights arrive sooner. I love these thoughts and they're definitely what I want to do until I realize how much there is to get done for all of the festivities that come with this time of year. So here is the abrupt record scratch on the gentle music of nesting and rainfall...we gotta start planning!

My books are open for scheduling through January and they're filling up fast. Saturdays book up especially quickly. Plan for lashes to be lifted for parties. Book your decompression facial before or after stressful gatherings. Get that dermaplane facial on the books a few days prior to the event for which you need to shimmer. Make that brow wax and tint appointment so your eyes will be more twinkly for all those photos. Book a wax or facial for visiting family as a special Portland treat.

I miss the sun.

This is the time of year that I always have to remind myself that the sun will, eventually, return to Portland. Every day, I do whatever I can to bring some energy to these soggy bottom days. I turn on my happy light in the morning. I take my vitamin d3 supplements. Exercise really does help. I lay under my Celluma LED panel for self treatments and I can almost convince myself that it feels as good as lying on the beach in the sun. Briefly.

This is a perfect time to refocus on morning and evening skin care routines. This time is part of what will keep wellness a priority in general.
