Thank you for being patient and supportive, and thank so much for your continued support!! I’m just sick over this but I’m ready to get back to doing what I love ❤️!! I’m trying to find the some FUN in this, but I’m gonna be honest—
THE STRUGGLE IS REAL🤪.

7 Summer Haircut Ideas for When Salons Re-Open Salons might be closed, but you can still daydream about your next look.
04/10/2020
We’ve made some changes due to COVID-19
Dear Urban Roots Salon community,
Things are changing and so are we!!
• Even though the salon is always up to the sanitation requirements as per The Ohio Dept Of Cosmetology, different measures have been taken to ensure customer comfort and safety. There will never be more than 2 stylists working at a time and lessening to amount of contact and people in the salon at a time.
• The salon is closed until May 1st or further notice per Governor Dewine.
• We have been doing some deliveries of Redken Root Fusion hair color touch up kits and some hair care products, to accommodate us as to not get too far off your schedule. The supply of touch up kits are running low and “when they’re gone, they’re gone”- Redken isn’t making them anymore😳
Even though this has good and keeping us a little busy it totally does make up for the fun we have in the salon nor does it make up for the loss of income - and what’s to possibly come😩
The question that keeps coming up is: DO PRICES NEED TO INCREASE WHEN THE SALON REOPENS?
The answer is YES - SOME PRICES WILL NEED TO INCREASE - FOR VARIOUS REASONS! So because of this we’ve been working on a great way to purchase your services NOW and LOCK-IN the current price AND SAVE EVEN MORE!!

A lot has happened.....
As we all prepare for OHIO’S 2 WEEK “STAY AT HOME” order, from Governor Mike Dewine and Dr. Amy Acton, I just need to touch base with all of my Urban Roots Hair Family ;
FIRST - to make sure you’re all OK?!
SECOND - Do any of you need anything besides hair necessities that I may be able to help with or get for you??
THIRD - To make sure you all know that all appointments from now until, I’d say - at least mid April, are being cancelled! Definitely not the most important thing on our agenda these days, but still important!!
How did we even get here?? I’m still having a hard time processing it! I haven’t, “not done hair” professionally for 28 years, but really started when I was 5 - so yeah- 45 years, for it to one day come to a screeching halt!
The FIRST thing I thought about was- “How am going to control this, and rise above?
My SECOND thought was - “Oh- maybe I’ll make some house calls? Ummmm NO! 😳🤦🏼♀️
So what did I do then?? I decide to go home, like everyone else in America and get on Facebook and Instagram, which in fact was the WORST THING I could’ve done🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
My mind was racing, my heart was pounding, and the first time in my life I felt like there was nothing I could do, but do as I’m told 😢. I then had to disengage from all social media for the weekend, and let my heart and my mind calm down from the pandemonium and accept what was going on!!
For those of you that don’t know:
*The order for the salon shutdown states;
I cannot practice doing hair I’m my salon, or the penalties are, 90 days in prison and/or $750 fine!
House calls are actually illegal, and sometime needed; but at a time like this, it’s way too dangerous -
NO 1 REASON - SPREADING THE VIRUS!!
NO 2 REASON - I COULD LOSE A FRIEND!!
NO 3 REASON - I COULD LOSE EVERTHING!!
During my weekend “mind vacation”, I actually did a lot of thinking🤣. I thought of ways for me to stay motivated! I thought I’d even report from the salon and maybe, do live videos, and demonstrations! I thought- “Just because I can’t “work” there doesn’t mean I can’t be there😜. I actually love being at the salon, but now we’re being ordered to stay home🤦🏼♀️.
Anyway- so there you have it! That what’s its like being me🤦🏼♀️😂. I call it “calm drama!
I may be panicking on the inside, but I do it with a poker face, and when I can shut everything else off that drives the panic, I can then “go inside” and do the real searching for what is right for ME and the people “I” take care of!
I have to scale it down because, believe it or not, I CAN’T SAVE THE WORLD, BUT there are something’s that I can do to help others and help myself and keep things rolling!!
Some of you have asked me about home hair color!! I have a Redken product, called Root Fusion. It is a permanent hair color designed for “in between” touch ups! I match your color formula, to one of our touch up kits, and YOU PUT IT ON YOURSELF!! This kit comes in its own box , with a small bottle of color, peroxide, a tint brush, mixing container and gloves! I know, I know you think I’ve lost!!
My plan is to get bunch of orders together, and BTW, if I have a color formula for you, then most likely, I already have YOUR COLOR MATCHED and in my online cart!!
The orders will then be delivered to MY HOUSE AND I WILL DROP THEM AT YOUR DOORSTEP!! AND THEN....WAIT FOR IT....
I WILL HOLD A LIVE STREAM AND DEMONSTRATE, ON MYSELF, HOW TO APPLY YOUR HAIR COLOR IN THE SAFETY OF YOUR OWN HOME, WHILE YOU OR A LOVED ONE APPLIES YOUR HAIR COLOR🤘🏻😝🤘🏻
HONESTLY- IT WILL BE THE BEST $26 YOU'LL SPEND!!
I’ve alway said - “I can teach a monkey how to apply a retouch - SO COME ON MONKEYS, LET’S DO THIS!! LETS RISE ABOVE, AND NOT LET THIS THIS MAKE LIVE WITH “ROOTS”!!
So now, to do this with me, all you have to do is message or email me, maybe take a pic of your roots, and I will send you an INVOICE FOR $26. I’ll also request your home address for drop off!! Once I place the order it will be to me in a couple of days!!! SEE-EASY PEASY!!
I also have have some great ideas, that I’ll roll out to all in the next few days, like, packages that include haircuts and/or combinations of cuts and colors, that are amazingly more cost effective when purchased for 4, 6, 9 and 12 months in advanced!! Also, some of you may have received an email about E-gift cards, which are also great for giving to yourself, and your friends and family, and the best part- THEY NEVER EXPIRE!!
Let’s all stay connected and get through this together! I know I probably need you all more than you need me! I seriously don’t go through a day without doing some kind of “hair thing” and, honesty- I DON’T KNOW HOW🤣🤣
Thank you all for your continued patronage and support and please let me know if Jeff and I can do anything for ANY ONE OF YOU AMAZING HAIR FRIENDS OF MINE!!
🤗😘🤗😘

ANNOUNCEMENT!!
MY SALON - URBAN ROOTS SALON - IS OPEN!!
During this time I’d like to invite you to come to my salon! It’s just me and 1 other gal that works a couple days a week!!
I have cleaned the salon on my own hands and knees, and have everything to disinfect and sanitize throughout the day, as we always do, but just have taken more precautions in order to ensure everyone feels safe in the salon environment!!
We need to Support our local small businesses to make sure they stay open, now and when this is lifted! We all have bills to pay and the rents and mortgages don’t go away!
I’m adjusting my schedule to accommodate, and or cancel/reschedule, and/or come in on a separate day, to ensure a safe comfortable environment!! Everyone has to do this how they need to make themselves feel they’ve made the best decisions for themselves and their families- believe me, I’m right there with ya! We just can’t give up completely - YET!!
Here is what I’ve received from the STATE BOARD OF COSMETOLOGY this morning! I’m copy/pasting exactly as it was written, so I’m not leaving anything out!!
——————————————-
Dear Licensees,
We have been getting a lot of calls, texts, e-mail, etc about Coronavirus and the Board’s response to it. Please know, the situation is changing rapidly in Ohio and across the country.
At this time, the Governor has ordered that events or businesses that can accommodate up to 100 people at a time be closed. This includes K-12 schools, restaurants and bars, etc. The Governor has not ordered individual businesses such as salons and barber shops to close. As of now, that decision is in the hands of each salon or barbershop.
Governor DeWine holds a daily press conference at 2:00 p.m. You are encouraged to watch the daily press conference on the Ohio Channel website. Many local TV stations are also broadcasting the press conference from their websites. These press conference will provide you with the most up to date and reliable information.
Below outlines what was announced over the weekend:
LONG-TERM CARE FACILITY CLARIFICATION
Clarifying the order prohibiting visitors to long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes, Governor DeWine clarified that there is an exemption of this prohibition for those, including clergy, visiting residents in end-of-life care.
BEHAVIORAL HEALTH HOSPITALS
Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Lori Criss announced that she has prohibited visitors to the state psychiatric hospitals and is making every effort to ensure video visitation for patients.
EXPANDING TELEHEALTH SERVICES
In partnership with the Ohio Department of Medicaid, Director Criss announced emergency orders that reduce restrictions on telehealth, ensuring that every Ohioan has access to behavioral health Care via telehealth services by landline or cell phone.
MENTAL WELLNESS
Director Criss encouraged all Ohioans to monitor their mental wellness during this time and described resources available at mhas.ohio.gov/coronavirus.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Governor DeWine announced that the state had received its personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, gowns, and goggles, from the National Strategic Reserve last night. He asked all health care providers and others that use PPE to conserve their supplies. Governor DeWine requested that dentists and veterinarians postpone elective surgeries. Governor DeWine explained that his health advisory group is in the process of developing guidelines for doctors for postponing elective surgeries that will not put patients at risk. These measures will open up critical treatment beds while preserving the state's limited supply of PPE.
RESTAURANTS AND BARS
Governor DeWine announced that the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) has issued a Director's Order that will close all Ohio bars and restaurants to in-house patrons, effective at 9:00 p.m., March 15, 2020. Restaurants with take-out and delivery options will still be able to operate those services, even as their dining rooms are temporarily closed.
The order was issued ahead of the St. Patrick's Day holiday, which commonly would attract large groups of people to bars and restaurants across the state. This would make "social distancing" impossible in many circumstances. This is known by healthcare providers to be among the most effective ways to slow the spread of the disease, due to the high rate and speed of transmission in COVID-19.
ENHANCED UNEMPLOYMENT AID FOR OHIOANS:
The Governor will issue an executive order, which will grant the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) with the authority to accept and grant requests for unemployment compensation suspending the normal 1-week waiting period.
This order will also give relief to applicants who are not offered paid leave through their job, as well as those who have been quarantined by a medical professional, their employer, or whose employers must temporarily close. Those who apply for unemployment under these circumstances will be exempt from the requirement that they be actively seeking work.
ONE-TIME LIQUOR BUYBACK:
The Ohio Department of Commerce will immediately begin offering a one-time liquor buyback option to support bars and restaurants. This will especially aid those establishments that have stocked up on high-proof liquor ahead of the St. Patrick's Day holiday for which they now have no use, due to their closure to in-house patrons.
Bars and restaurants wishing to take advantage of this opportunity should return their unopened, high-proof liquor products (obtained within the past 30 days) to the agency where they purchased the product. This opportunity is also extended to those with temporary (F2) permits for events scheduled between March 12 and April 6, 2020. If a business has questions about this program, they should reach out directly to the Liquor Enterprise Service Center (LESC) at 1(877)812-0013 or by emailing [email protected].
SUPPORT FOR SMALL BUSINESSES & NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS:
The Ohio Development Services Agency is preparing to submit an application in the coming week to qualify Ohio for the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA) Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program. This program provides low-interest loans up to $2 million in order to help businesses overcome the temporary loss of revenue during the state of emergency.
Non profit organizations in Ohio will also be eligible for low-interest loans through the SBA's Economic Injury Disaster Loan program.
In order to complete the state's application, businesses impacted by the current public health crisis should immediately send their contact information to [email protected]. Additional information on the SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program is available at SBA.gov/Disaster.
For more information on Ohio's response to COVID-19, visit coronavirus.ohio.gov or call 1-833-4-ASK-ODH.
As more information becomes available, we will share this information with you.
