Please stop treating your annual check-up like it's a surprise party.
One of the biggest myths I hear from patients is:
"I only come in when something's wrong."
Baby, your annual physical is not a surprise party — it's a routine check-in that catches problems while they're still small.
Annual Physicals can affect:
• Your blood pressure
• Your blood sugar
• Your cholesterol
• Your cancer screenings
• Your overall health
For a lot of adults, years go by between visits — and that's exactly how small, manageable issues turn into big ones.
Do not ignore:
✔ Chest pain or shortness of breath
✔ Sudden vision changes
✔ Unexplained weight changes
✔ Persistent pain
✔ New lumps or skin changes
At Outlier Health & Wellness in Fresh Meadows, Queens, Dr. Patrice Powell provides adult and senior primary care focused on prevention, chronic disease management, and helping patients stay healthy all year long.

Dr. P Says: Fellas… if you're p*eing five times every night, your prostate deserves an introduction. 09/26/2026

Fellas… if you're p*eing five times every night, your prostate deserves an introduction.
One of the biggest myths I hear from my patients is:
"That's just what happens when you get older."
Fellas, getting up five times a night to p*e is not a badge of honor — it can be your prostate, bladder, or blood sugar trying to get your attention.
Men's Health can affect:
• Your bladder
• Your prostate
• Your kidneys
• Your sleep
• Your overall health
For a lot of men, urinary changes get waved off for years before anyone ever brings them up at a visit.
Do not ignore:
✔ Blood in the urine
✔ Trouble starting or stopping urination
✔ Frequent nighttime bathroom trips
✔ Pelvic or lower back pain
✔ Fever with urinary symptoms

TODAY'S REMINDER.
Food is more than fuel — it is information your body uses to heal and function.
Low energy.
Mood changes.
Difficulty concentrating.
Digestive discomfort.
Many people equate eating well with eating less, when balance matters more than restriction.
Today's reminder:
Fuel your body with kindness.
Choose progress over perfection at each meal.

One of the most common things I hear from patients is:

"I'm just tired. That's just how I am."

Baby, no. Being exhausted every single day is not a quirky personality trait — it's your body waving a flag. Chronic fatigue can be a sign of anemia, thyroid problems, sleep apnea, diabetes, depression, or heart and kidney disease.

Whether you're 30 or 80, feeling worn out all the time deserves a real conversation with your provider, not a shrug.

Today's Reminder: Small Choices Add Up 09/15/2026

TODAY'S REMINDER.
You do not need a complete lifestyle overhaul to get healthier.
Taking the stairs.
Choosing water over soda.
Adding a short walk.
Prepping one healthy meal.
None of these feel dramatic on their own, but together they matter.
Today's reminder:
Small choices add up.
Start with one small choice today.

Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month: Know the Signs and Support Early Detection in Queens 09/13/2026

🦋 September is Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month

Your thyroid may be small, but changes in your neck shouldn’t be ignored.

Thyroid cancer may not cause symptoms in its early stages. When symptoms do occur, you may notice:

🦋 A new lump or swelling in your neck
🦋 Persistent hoarseness or voice changes
🦋 Difficulty swallowing
🦋 Difficulty breathing
🦋 Persistent pressure or discomfort in the neck

**Most thyroid nodules are not cancerous**, but a new or changing lump should still be evaluated.

And remember: **normal thyroid blood work does not necessarily rule out thyroid cancer.** If you notice a change, talk to your healthcare provider about whether further evaluation is needed.

This **Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month**, know your neck and pay attention to changes.

💙 **Know your neck. Notice changes. Get them checked.**

Blood Cancer Awareness Month: Understanding Symptoms, Early Detection, and Support in Queens 09/10/2026

# # # 🩸 September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month

Blood cancers like **leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma** can sometimes begin with symptoms that are easy to overlook.

Persistent or unexplained symptoms may include:

🩸 Unusual fatigue or weakness
🩸 Frequent infections
🩸 Easy bruising or unexplained bleeding
🩸 Swollen lymph nodes
🩸 Fever or night sweats
🩸 Unintentional weight loss
🩸 Bone or joint pain

Having these symptoms **does not mean you have blood cancer**—many can be caused by other conditions. But if something feels different, persists, or keeps coming back, it deserves a conversation with your healthcare provider.

Your primary care provider can evaluate your symptoms, order appropriate testing, and connect you with a hematologist or oncologist when needed.

💙 This **Blood Cancer Awareness Month**, pay attention to what your body is telling you.

**Don’t ignore persistent changes. Get checked. Get answers. Stay informed.**

LABOR DAY 🇺🇸 09/07/2026

HAPPY LABOR DAY! 🇺🇸

Labor Day is a time to relax, enjoy good food, and spend time with family and friends.

As you enjoy the long weekend, don’t forget the basics: stay hydrated, take your medications, be mindful of alcohol and heavy foods, and give your body the rest it needs.

Take a break from work — not from taking care of your health.

A little prevention can help keep your holiday weekend safe and enjoyable.

If your symptoms are worsening, lingering, or affecting your daily life, it may be time to get checked.
