barber truths: capturing haircut pictures

It wasn’t very common to take pictures of haircuts at one point before it became popular on social media. iPhone cameras were subpar and if you wanted decent looking work, you had to have a legit camera.

Well, there was also a time when you pulled out a legit camera in the barbershop. You drew all kind of attention, and I felt weird explaining it and I felt like I was making clients feel weird. At the very least center of attention which I don’t like.

it’s not always easy to get a perfect* picture of the haircut. great cameras pick up more flaws than the human eye plus other variables can affect its quality so there’s a lot of pictures that don’t make the cut.

I wonder do clients feel weird if they get their picture taken and don’t get posted?

So many times I’ve tried to take a before/after picture and get distracted at the end of the cut and forget to take the actor picture.

RIP to all the pictures I took that didn’t get posted, don’t worry I’m not doing anything weird all those ‘before’ pictures….

“how much are kid’s haircuts?”

obviously this answer depends on who you ask or what shop you go to as all of our prices vary. however, this is a question that is slowly fading out of our industry. that question implies that a kids haircut should be cheaper than an adult haircut, but why?

when I first started cutting hair, I never second guessed the price difference because the requests were always very simple. Usually they were some thing like an even all-around clipper cut or may be a one length cut on the sides with the trim on top. We could have waiting areas filled with kids and knock out their haircuts significantly quicker than adults.

In the last five years or so, things change, and now it’s common to see young kids, some who haven’t even started school, yet wearing haircuts with complex details like skin fades, hard parts, and designs shaved into their hair with a straight blade.

When I created my service menu for MTB, I wasn’t sure if we were going to offer a discount for kids prices or not. Ultimately, I decided that we should have a kids discount because it makes a considerable difference for a father & son, and bigger families.
