“David was the name he used in the gay world. We first met in 1975 on the parking lot on the beach across the street from Ripples a gay nightclub in Long Beach, California.

David was very VERY Butch. No one would ever suspect him of being gay. He did not act conceited about his body. He was a nice guy and became a high school math teacher and coach.

David made fun of the whole AIDS scare, when it first came out (circa 1980), but by the early 1990s, he was succumbing to the disease.

David was blind, bedridden and in great pain when I fed him his last home cooked meal. I spent his last night, at home, with him. He could not sleep, so, I fed him ice chips (he was very thirsty) and held and emptied his p*e bottle for him.

His father did not know that he was gay or sick. I told David that he really needed to tell his father and allow him to be there with him; to tell him he loved him.

In the morning, while David lay in bed, I bathed and shaved him. I washed his hair and blew it dry and helped him dress.

A friend arrived to take him to the hospital. From the hospital, David contacted his father in Oklahoma City.

That evening, his father was at his bedside; holding his hand and telling him he loved him. The next morning David passed away.” — by Robert Bazan
