The uncomfortable truth is that the planet is dying, and we have to take responsibility. The beauty industry thrives on convincing us we always need something new. Meanwhile, perfectly good products sit half-empty in our cabinets until they expire.

I’m not saying you should keep using products that are damaging your skin. If something is irritating your barrier, causing breakouts, or simply isn’t right for you, stop using it. But I also don’t think the answer is to throw everything away and start over every time your skin changes.

As estheticians, we’re the culprits too. Sometimes our brains are running at 100 miles a minute on all the things a client can do to reach their goals quickly, but we shove the things they’ve already invested in to the side. But this is truly where we can have our education shine through; replacing what’s absolutely necessary, changing how they may use what’s already in their cabinets, or encouraging slow swaps while being realistic about how it impacts their goals.

As an industry, we have to push for more sustainable practices. From encouraging brands to create recyclable packaging, to investing into learning how products are sourced.

We all have a part to play.

My go-to post SkinPen Microneedling routine! I personally follow this routine for about 3 days post needling; and slowly reintroduce my other products as my skin heals.

Everybody’s post-treatment routine is going to (& should) look a little different depending on skin goals and how aggressive the treatment was.

Had to hop on the trend 🫠

AXING BAD SKINCARE HABITS 🪓

Every time you pick at a breakout, skip sunscreen, crash into bed with your makeup on, or chase the latest viral product, you’re asking your skin to recover from something it never needed to go through in the first place.

Healthy skin isn’t about having a cabinet full of products. It’s about giving your skin the right environment to do what it was designed to do: repair, protect, and regenerate.

The biggest transformations I see aren’t from one miracle serum, they come from people who commit to small, consistent habits and a routine that’s actually built for their skin.

Which skincare habit are you guilty of? I’ll go first: I definitely pick at my pimples, which I always immediately regret💀

If you’re tired of guessing, let’s build a routine that works with your skin instead of against it ❤️‍🔥

No pain, no gain 🤷‍♀️

I opt out of numbing cream when doing my own microneedling for a few reasons:
-I need to feel what I’m doing on my own skin
-Numbing cream causes sporadic flushing on me, making it harder to determine clinical end point
-I just don’t like the feeling or the waiting process

With that being said, even my clients that also opt out of numbing cream tolerate microneedling just fine, especially since the treatment is so fast (about 15-20 minutes of needle on skin action).

Naturally, some areas are going to be a little spicier (even WITH numbing) — the forehead and eye area are most notably a little sensi due to the lack of “cushion” in those areas.

We always discuss topical numbing prior to treatment, even if you’ve opted out before and change your mind for your next treatment, that’s totally fine! You don’t get a reward for toughing it out without numbing, and you don’t risk your results if you do numb.

Well, no, not exactly. Pore size is generally determined by genetics, hormones, oil production, and age. You can’t completely erase pores (nor should you want to as they’re an important part of healthy skin function). But what you can change is how noticeable they appear.

This is where treatments like microneedling come in. By creating controlled micro-injuries, microneedling stimulates your body’s natural production of collagen and elastin. As that new collagen forms, it strengthens the skin surrounding each pore, creating a firmer foundation that makes pores appear smaller. Over time, microneedling can also help normalize oil flow and improve overall skin texture, making enlarged pores even less noticeable.

Btw this was only TWO sessions…

The goal isn’t perfect skin (ps that doesn’t exist) - the goal is skin that functions better, feels smoother, and looks healthier. Healthy skin will always outperform perfect skin.

IECSC LAS VEGAS ‘26 🎰

My first esthetics convention! Met so many great people, created great memories, and learned a whole bunch. I intended on taking way more content but we lived in the moment instead 💃🏼 Grateful for everyone who was apart of the journey & can’t wait to keep growing in this beautiful industry.

My current treatment room obsession = inflacure + red light therapy.

Inflacure is a powerhouse healing active featuring chlorophyll, urea, and botanical extracts to focus on healing and soothing the skin.

The red background you see on this clients skin is thanks to DMK’s Quick Peel; another one of my treatment room faves. This exfoliating gel works to create a pseudo heat in the skin — increasing circulation, oxygenation, and nutrient supply.
