The overwhelming response of Black and Brown women on the CLAP Connect form is just one of the reasons we created the "Problem With People of Color" zine from our CLAP Teach-In. Generalizing terms like "POC," "BI-POC," or "Minorities" is problematic because it can erase the ethno-group and/or intersectionality experiences. We have to be specific. Connect with us for zines we take to community events and the legislative office in place of brochures and pamphlets.

Along with hundreds of the CLAP Weekly newsletter we generated for years, we also provided hundreds of direct connection low barrier resource support with the CLAP Connect form throughout the years. Hundreds of submissions with over 75%—identifying as female, with a significant majority identifying as Black when seeking basic needs, housing, safety, financial empowerment, and even wellness.
Documenting the "Lack of Resources": When asked what support they currently receive exposes a system that collects information but denies relief. Respondents explicitly state having "None," "Very little," or dealing with "countless agencies collecting information and nothing more. This is why we focus on low barrier, advocacy, and connection to those historically and currently with the least support. Visit us at clapsac.com if you need connection to resources.

For those in proximity of “us” but they have no possible range of what we have and hold within to be “us”. OR do know and use it on the backs of "us" for their own self serving agenda. We deserve better.

Black women are so powerful and yes we are strong because that is not a bad word -but strong isn't even close to the definition of the roles we have in this world as the back bones in our families and in communities.

We grew up looking out for each other here in Sactown. There are so many in Sactown still striving, moving, alongside folks with community care, safety support, or just plain showing up. You are not alone.

Zines can be cost effective visuals to educate people, uplift issues, and CLAP shares them in community or events.They also are high- impact visual advocacy we take to the legislative offices when advocating for policy and causes that impact our community. Instead of the standard leaflets or brochures. Zines are our “leave-behinds” for the legislators that align with CLAP but also to reference to gather support.
