My weekend customer was incredibly sweet, kind, and uplifting that it reminded me why I love what I do. The nails are the service, however the conversations, laughter, and connections are the real bonus.

Hi, I’m Roberta—the owner and founder of Smudge Nail Bar. A nurse, entrepreneur, community builder, and sometimes your nail technician. I moved to Sacramento from Tacoma, WA and I love it here ☀️

I opened Smudge with a vision of creating the kind of salon I couldn’t find: clean, welcoming to all, eco-conscious, and focused on quality over quantity. What started as an idea has grown into a space where self-care, artistry, and genuine connection come together.

Did you know 2.6% of nail technicians in America are Black? As a Black woman business owner, building a business from the ground up has been both rewarding and challenging. Every milestone we’ve reached has been fueled by determination, our incredible team, and a community that continues to show up for us.

When I’m not at the salon, you’ll likely find me traveling somewhere new, wine tasting with friends, loving on a rescue dog, or working at the hospital!

Around here, I wear a lot of hats—the face behind the social media posts, event planning, late-night ideas, scheduling puzzles, and the list goes on! However, my favorite role is creating a space where people feel seen, cared for, and confident when they leave our doors.
