Every appointment starts with a plan... but sometimes the best plan changes.
She originally booked an all-over custom color, but after looking at her hair in person and talking through her goals, we decided a different approach would give her the result she was really after.
Instead, we:
- Refreshed her gray coverage at the roots.
- Softly pulled the color through select mids and ends to blend seamlessly but break up the solid color on the ends.
- Applied a custom gloss to tone down the brassiness while keeping plenty of brightness and dimension.
- Finished with a fresh haircut, a smooth blowout, and soft curls.
This approach gave her everything she wanted without taking her too dark or covering up the beautiful dimension she already had.
One of my favorite parts of being a hairstylist is creating a plan that's tailored to your hair - not just sticking to what was originally booked.
Sometimes, doing less is actually what creates the most beautiful result. š¤
A few years ago, I realized I was always taking on too much and putting myself last.
Since leaving corporate America, I've been learning to slow down and live more intentionally.
For me, success isn't just about building a business anymore. It's also about protecting my health, my faith, my relationships, and my peace.
These are the habits I come back to, no matter how busy life gets:
š¤ Nourish my body
š¤ Spend time with God
š¤ Get outside
š¤ Walk daily
š¤ Strength train
š¤ Be fully present
š¤ Prioritize real connection
I've learned that taking care of yourself isn't selfish - it's what allows you to show up well for everything and everyone else.
Because the small things you do consistently become the life you eventually live.
What's one habit that's made a positive difference in your life?

From brassy to beautifully blended.
My client had just moved back from Italy and was ready for a fresh start with her hair. Her biggest goal? To get rid of the overly warm, brassy blonde and create something that would grow out more naturally.
Hereās what we did:
- Gray coverage at the roots
- Glossed the mids and ends a few shades deeper to soften the brassiness
- Created a more seamless transition from root to ends for a lower-maintenance grow-out
One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that going a little darker means youāre ālosingā your blonde.
In reality, the right gloss can make your hair look richer, shinier, healthier, and more expensive - while giving you a softer grow-out and fewer harsh lines between appointments.
The goal isnāt always to be the lightest blonde in the room.
Itās to have beautiful, healthy-looking hair that works for your lifestyle. š¤

Low-porosity hair doesnāt mean your hair doesnāt need moisture - it usually means your hair needs lighter layers of moisture and the right products.
If your hair constantly feels coated, weighed down, or like products are just sitting on top, hereās where Iād start:
š«§ Shampoo + Conditioner: Pureology Hydrate Sheer
https://amzn.to/4wDM6qm
⨠Leave-In: Redken One United
https://amzn.to/3RIQbun
š§ Oil: Moroccanoil Treatment Light (just 1ā2 drops!)
https://amzn.to/4pNjCI5
One of the biggest mistakes I see with low-porosity hair is adding more and more product when the real solution is often using less of the right product.
Remember, porosity is just one piece of the puzzle. Your texture, strand thickness, density, damage history, and styling habits all matter too.
š Save this for your next wash day, and send it to someone whose products always seem to sit on top of their hair.

Do you have thick hairā¦or do you have a lot of fine hair? š
Those are actually two different things.
Hair density describes how much hair you have, while strand thickness describes the diameter of each individual strand.
You can have fine hair with high density, coarse hair with low density - or anything in between.
Understanding the difference can help explain why certain products, haircuts, and styling techniques work beautifully for one person and completely differently for another.
I broke it all down in the newest Hair Fundamentals article:
Hair Density: What It Is (and Why It Isn't the Same as Thick Hair)

Sometimes the best service is the one you donāt do.
She came in booked for a gloss and a haircut, but after seeing her color in person, I told her she didnāt need the gloss today. Could I have done it anyway? Sure.
But Iād rather recommend whatās actually going to benefit your hair than have you spend money on something that isnāt necessary.
So instead, we took about 6 inches off her ends, gave her a smooth blowout, and with the money she saved, she decided to treat herself to an eyebrow wax instead.
The best part? She told me my blowouts last her an entire week - even on vacation - and she naturally has wavy, frizz-prone hair. š
At her next appointment, weāll move her highlights up and add a gloss when itāll make the biggest difference.
Beautiful hair isnāt about doing more every visit. Itās about doing the right things at the right time.

Meet Your Stylist š
Hi! I'm Gina, the owner of Hair by Gina.O.
I specialize in creating healthy, low-maintenance hair that looks beautiful long after you leave the salon. My goal is for every appointment to feel relaxed, personalized, and honest.
A few fun facts about meā¦
- I became a hairstylist after spending over a decade in corporate leadership. Starting over was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
- I'm a lifelong learner and genuinely love the science behind healthy hair. If you've ever asked me a hair question⦠you know I probably gave you the full explanation. š
- I believe in honest recommendations. If you don't need a service, I'll tell you. I'd rather earn your trust than sell you something you don't need.
- Outside the salon, you'll usually find me creating content, trying new beauty products, spending time in nature, or making memories with my family.
- I'm a big believer that great hair should fit your lifestyle - not require hours of work every morning.
- My favorite appointments are short cuts, lived-in color, gray solutions, and helping clients build routines that actually work for their hair.
- My favorite compliment is when a client tells me their hair still looked great weeks later.
š Whether you're a longtime client or just found my page, I'm so glad you're here!

Healthy hair is about knowing what you can do at home⦠and when itās worth calling your stylist. š¤
I hadnāt seen this sweet client in a while, and she admitted sheād been touching up her roots at home. She was worried Iād be upset.
Honestly? Not at all.
I completely understand wanting to save money where you can. A simple root touch-up for gray coverage can be a practical option for some people between appointments.
Where Iād love for you to leave it to the professionals is the more technical work - haircuts, layers, blonding, balayage, color corrections, and anything that requires precise placement or formulation.
For todayās visit, we kept it simple:
- Fresh trim
- Soft face-framing layers
- Smooth blowout
And hereās my favorite part⦠this finish is from the blowout alone. No flat iron. I only straighten the hair if a client specifically requests it.
Sometimes the smallest appointments make the biggest difference. š
Started with a resignation and a dream š« Do it scared, do it broke, do it anyway - that's how Hair by Gina.O got built. It's never too late!

A little brighter, a little softer, and made just for her.
For this transformation, we:
1. Added heavy highlights for brightness
2. Chose a blonde together thatās a few shades deeper than the inspiration for a softer, lower-maintenance grow-out.
3. Added more layers than the inspo to create movement, volume, and shape.
Inspiration photos are exactly that - inspiration. The best results come from customizing the color and haircut to your hair, your features, and your lifestyle.
Thatās how you get hair that doesnāt just look beautiful when you leave the salon - it still looks beautiful weeks later. š¤
