Crow Nail Studio
Over 19 years of experience. Salon owner and educator

Hi, hi! I’m due for an update, so I thought I’d throw my face up here and tell you a few things about me.
My name is Lori Sartain, owner, educator, Master Nail Artist at Crow Nail Studio and brand affiliate for Erica's 💅 Nail Tools & Tips. I’ve been a licensed nail tech for 20 years this February, and I still love what I do. I love the craft, I love my clients, and I love being a mentor to other nail techs in our community.
I’ll be 42 this year! I’ve been married 13 years to the LOML, Mike, and we have two cats, Fredrick (my assistant) and Keven, as well as our dog, Penny. I’ve been a vegetarian for 16 years because of my love for animals and yes, I still get plenty of protein.
I love traveling, being in nature, Pilates, walking and hiking, the sun and the moon, flowers, bees, cooking, beading, and of course doing nails. I’m a big advocate for self-care because I don’t believe we were born just to pay bills and die. I love a good facial, fancy chocolate, almond milk lattes and fine dining. That’s my kind of self care.
I started my first job at 11 years old delivering newspapers to help my mom pay the bills, and I’ve worked ever since.
I don’t have many friends because this job fills my social battery, and I’m actually pretty introverted. I’ve struggled with extreme social anxiety my whole life and covered it with alcohol until 4.5 years ago when I quit drinking. Now I just throw myself into uncomfortable situations to work through it naturally, and so far it’s worked out pretty great.
Anyway, welcome to my page if you’re new, and thanks for hanging around if you’ve been here for a while. I truly love this industry, and I look forward to many more years of doing what I love. 🖤
Here is a quick way to understand how to test your gel lamp. This is a must for every professional as well as anyone doing their own nails at home.
Forgive my voiceover brain, I kept saying “base” and meant “hard gel”.
The most important thing you will ever work with is your lamp. If it fails, so will the nails you do.
A few signs your lamp is failing are: gummed up bits after removal, obvious uncured gel through the top layer, lifting, greenies, chipping, peeling, sensitivities, Onycholysis and nails just popping off after proper prep and quality product application.
Check your lamps monthly to make sure they are curing your product fully. If you find a problem like mine here, switch to clear immediately until you can replace it. If the clear is sticky or showing any signs of uncured gel, you must be responsible and halt all services until you get a new light.
Lastly, yes… it is important to work with the light that matches the brand you’re using. It’s not just a sales tactic, it’s science and chemistry.

Bringing back safe and healthy regular gel polish manicures for a thin and sleek look.
This service is not ideal for everyone but if you’d like to discuss if it could work for you, send me a DM or bring it up at your next appointment.
This option works best for short strong nails with regular appointments every 2-3 weeks on clients who don’t pick or use their nails as tools.

My client and I have been on a mission. She has struggled with lifting and natural nail chipping for months. The second I switched her to Trinity Gel, the chipping stopped and with the added support of their prescription base Super-Bond, we no longer have lifting.
Super-Bond prescription base was created for oily or moist nails or people with hyperhidrosis who have extreme lifting. This client is a hair stylist whose hands are always in water and she loves to swim in her free time. I’m so glad we could find the right combo and grow out her beautiful natural nails.
Products used: Affixit, Super-Bond prescription base, Trinity in clear and Luxio Smoulder topped with Shine On.

is my greatest admirer in our industry. She is knowledgeable, brilliant and is a 6 time global champion. She has earned this title through every aspect in our industry and I too believe she is truly the best nail tech in the world.
I had the opportunity to sit in as a model for one of her classes last year and it humbled me deeply. It also brought back the light and passion I was missing and let me know I still had so much more to learn and ways to grow in this industry when I was feeling stuck and bored.
I recently decided to start her online education until I can get to an in person class in Europe or she comes back to the US but I wanted to start with something different. Her photos are beautiful and I can’t wait to utilize the knowledge from this class in my work.
So much went in to just this photo course and I highly recommend you all take it. She doesn’t use apps, filters or expensive lighting. She spends so much time in the detail down to the lumens of your lightbulb.
Thanks Olena, you’re amazing andI can’t wait for more!

Collagen Socks use a vegan collagen to help soothe dry, cracked or tired feet. I love taking these when I travel somewhere that I’ll be on my feet or walking everywhere for a refreshing recovery or for extra hydration at the beach when the sand can be drying to my heels.
These also make a great gift on a girls trip or just for yourself in between pedicures for a boost of hydration.
Grab a pair for yourself or a friend at your next appointment for just $7.
