Little Eaters & Talkers
At Little Eaters & Talkers, our team of Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and Occupational Therapists (OTs) help children thrive at every stage of feeding.
We support families in the Houston area and virtually,
When your toddler wants to feed YOU instead of eating their own food… 🍓😂
Don’t panic. And don’t immediately turn it into a battle.
Feeding a parent can be a way for your child to explore food, connect socially, reduce pressure, or simply figure out what to do with this whole eating thing.
Try:
👉 “You want to feed Mommy! Thank you. Now Mommy’s turn… and then your turn.”
👉 “You can give me one bite, then you can take one.”
👉 “You’re not ready for a bite yet? That’s okay. Your food can stay right here.”
The goal is to accept the interaction without letting your child completely outsource the eating. 😉
We want mealtimes to feel safe, social, and low-pressure—while still giving your child plenty of opportunities to practice eating their own food.
And yes… sometimes being fed by your toddler is basically a five-star restaurant experience. 😂

If your baby arches, screams, or clamps their mouth shut the second the bottle comes near — you are not doing anything wrong. 🍼
Bottle refusal is one of the most stressful things a parent can go through, especially when everyone around you keeps saying "just try harder" or "they'll take it when they're hungry enough." (They usually won't — and that advice can actually make things worse.)
As a feeding therapist, I see this constantly in my clinic. It's rarely about stubbornness. It's almost always about comfort, control, or an underlying sensory or oral-motor reason your baby can't quite tell you about.
I just published a new post with 7 therapist-approved strategies that actually address why babies fight the bottle — not just tricks to power through it.

Feeding issues + constipation? 👀 Let’s talk about what’s on the plate.
I see so many kids who struggle with both, and while Miralax or lactulose can have a place, I also want to look at the diet.
For some kids, a diet heavy in dairy may be contributing to constipation. 🥛
Have you ever noticed your child’s constipation improve after reducing dairy or switching to a non-dairy milk?
I want to hear your experience! 👇
What does a significant tongue tie actually look like? 👅
This little girl had a severe restriction in her tongue movement. And while a tongue tie can be easy to spot visually, the bigger question is always:
How is it affecting function? And How did all the doctors not recommend a release?!!!!
Tongue movement matters for feeding, swallowing, speech, oral motor skills, and more.
If you’re a parent who has been told your child has a tongue tie, don’t just ask, “How does it look?” Ask, “How is the tongue functioning?”
Save this if you’re navigating a tongue tie, and send it to a parent who needs to see this. ❤️
Breastfeeding is going great… but baby absolutely refuses the bottle? 🍼
If you’re going back to work soon or need some time away, don’t wait until the week before to figure it out.
Bottle refusal can have many different causes, and the earlier we figure out why a baby is refusing the bottle, the more options we have to help.
If your breastfed baby is refusing bottles, especially alongside concerns about intake or weight gain, a feeding evaluation may be worth considering. 🤍

Your pediatrician said "feeding therapy." You started searching. Now you're staring at SLP and OT with no idea which one to call.
You're not missing something obvious — both genuinely treat feeding, and almost nobody explains the difference in plain language.
Here's the short version.
An SLP comes at eating through the mouth: chewing, swallowing, textures, and the feeding-speech connection. An OT comes at it through sensory processing and motor skills — better when food is one item on a longer sensory list alongside clothing tags, haircuts and loud rooms.
Plenty of children need both. They're not either/or.
But the letters matter less than three questions: Do you specialise in pediatric feeding? Are parents in the room? What approach do you use?
New blog is live with all of it — link in bio.
From ICU + intubation + NG tube… to FREE TO FEED! ❤️🎉
This little guy’s progress has been incredible. We slowly increased his oral volumes, trialed different ni**le flows with pacing, and carefully monitored his safety along the way.
His repeat swallow study showed some pe*******on, but overall he did amazing and was cleared to feed orally!
A swallow study is a guide—not a prediction of a child’s feeding future.
With individualized care, careful monitoring, and a team willing to reassess along the way, babies can show us just how much they’re capable of. 💙

Houston parents of picky eaters — school starts in eleven days and you already know how this goes.
The lunchbox comes home full. The teacher says he "didn't seem hungry." You pack the same four foods because at least those come back empty sometimes.
Here's what most people miss: a school cafeteria is one of the hardest sensory environments a child eats in all year. Fluorescent lights. Two hundred voices. A twenty-minute window, eight of it standing in line. Smells from forty other lunchboxes. And a kid who's already using every bit of regulation he has just to sit still.
Your child isn't refusing lunch to be difficult. He's out of capacity by the time the tray hits the table.
Swipe for the five things I'd change about your lunchbox before day one — none of which are "hide a vegetable in it."
And if the cafeteria part hit home, that's the piece worth understanding first. Comment SENSORY and I'll send you our free Sensory Explorer guide — what's actually happening at the table, and what to do about it.
