San Antonio, Texas: recover from pain, destress & find alignment thru DEEP tissue myofascial "FasciAshi" Barefoot Massage & Structural Integration from the FEET of Jeni Spring, an award winning Licensed Massage Therapist since 2002. Relaxation is not exactly my focus, BUT the good news is that chemically, deep down to the cells of your body, a sense of relaxation happens with every ‘Deeper than De
When your body feels impossibly heavy and even a full night of sleep does nothing to touch that deep, systemic tiredness... Barefoot Massage can HEEL that!
Living in persistent tension and mental overwhelm burns massive amounts of fuel. When your structure and nervous system are stuck treating every single movement like a task, that forgetful brain fog sneaks in.
Trying to just "push through it" or drink another espresso down at Theory Coffee on Naco/410 doesn't fix it. (But we will drink it anyways because their foam and caramel is SO. DAMN. GOOD!)
During my sessions, I use broad, heavy, sustained barefoot massage pressure to give your nervous system the input it actually needs to let down its guard. My pressure can be so slow and grounded that it's almost under stimulating. I'm like a giant weighted blanket calming you down. I anchor pressure through your ribs and hips to decompress you in ways that makes deep, calm, breathing feel natural and invigorating, not exhausting.
The moment your brain senses that real, grounded physical support and feels your own breath expanding thru your inner space, your nervous system drops out of defense mode and into a full reset. The mental fog starts to lift as your awareness comes back into the blindspots of your body. You walk out rooted, clear, and awake inside your own bones again.
If you are feeling completely drained and running on fumes anywhere in North Central San Antonio, Thousand Oaks, Stone Oak, or nearby, come let me give your system the physical reset it's looking for.
Ready to get your bod woke? Together,
So we have a new neighbor: Yuki from
Yuki is a Certified Gyrotonic® and Gyrokinesis® Trainer from Japan, working with a wide range of clients-from teens to people in their 90s, from active dancers to those seeking gentle, therapeutic movement.
I had a private intro session yesterday, and maybe an easy way to explain it is that the tower or machine is sort of like a Pilates Reformer, but with weights on the cables rather than resistance springs. She guides you thru sequences of circular movement with breath, stacking those movements into different body positions for different ranges of motion in your spine, hips, + shoulders, then adds weight to help you stabilize and strengthen.
The spatial awareness, movement initiation of all the individual joints working in tandem with the breath and alignment WAS SO COOL! My second session is next week, & I can't wait!
Yuki has something so cool here. She Is manifesting the same anatomy driven and neuro-nerdy vibes as I do but in her own voice and niche. She shared so many nuggets of info as she taught, I am so happy she and her business are right here!
I think these mindful, strengthening movement classes with her would pair so perfectly with any of my clients going thru or graduated from my Structural Integration 12-series!

That nagging, Texas-sized shoulder pain keeping you from swinging freely or closing the trunk door or tailgate? It might not actually be a shoulder problem.
Swipe through to see why "where it is, it ain't"... and how my massage moves that work through your ribs, chest, and bony framework using broad barefoot pressure all help your nervous system safely down-regulate that pain response.
My studio is right on Jones-Maltsberger Rd in San Antonio, just a quick 15-minute drive from the Alamo Heights, Shavano Park, Windcrest and Stone Oak areas.

That exact moment when an electric, burning line starts dead center in your glute and travels down your hamstring... your whole body instinctively freezes up.
When it gets down to the back of the knee, it can feel like a mix of something stuck in a cramp & a taut pull going down the calf. After living with that kind of intensity, you learn to move around it. You pivot, you swing your leg out, you find little compensations just to get through your day or do whatever you can to finish a short trail at McAllister Park right down the street from me to "walk it off" and hope for the best.
The trouble is, those habits keep your nervous system protecting you long after it needs to. "Getting used to it" doesn't help your brain reconceptualize those pain signals or turn down their intensity. It just stays in defense mode, trying to safeguard you from feeling that sudden zap again.
During a 12-Series of sessions last year, this client and I worked on shifting that whole pattern together. By combining Structural Integration, Myofascial Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage, and Stretch Therapy, I helped them learn to feel into what they called their "Sciatica Pain"... finding every location and tracking the intensity instead of running from it.
When we edge through those sensations together in a safe therapeutic setting, I can give their nervous system the green light to down-regulate that threat response. Holding steady with deep, broad foot pressure along those continuous myofascial lines gives their fascia room to release and slide, reducing both the physical and mental tension held around the fear of the pain.
Now, instead of relying on old protective habits, they come into my studio on Jones-Maltsberger for quick tune-ups at the first sign of a flare-up. If you are anywhere in North Central San Antonio, Stone Oak, or within a 20-minute drive of my office, come get underfoot here at Heeling Sole.
This kind of embodied learning is how you actually manage and recover from chronic, persistent pain.

Rainy day at the office here in San Antonio by McCallister Park, so the plants get to live outside for a while, and that "fresh rain on the pavement" smell drifts into the massage room.

New research is backing up what I try to teach my clients and Massage students about pain science: pain relief isn’t about how hard someone presses. It’s about how safe, relevant, and tolerable that input feels to your nervous system.
Two people can receive the same amount of pressure and have completely different outcomes. Why? Because pain isn’t produced in tissue alone…it’s an experience shaped by context, expectation, past injury, stress, and how well your brain can interpret what’s happening.
Key findings of that research:
✔️Higher pressure did not reliably produce better outcomes
✔️Perceived comfort, safety, and individual tolerance mattered more than force
✔️People receiving “lighter” or moderate pressure experienced comparable improvements in pain and function
✔️Excessive pressure increased guarding and threat responses in some participants
When pressure crosses your system’s threshold, the body guards. Pressure and depth are two different things. I know I have the right pressure, regardless of depth,.when blood flow changes, breathing shifts, layers feel melty.
I try to get deeper through feeling and responding to your layers of tissue, sinking till we find it or scrolling deeper each pass, not pushing. I try to use weight, time, angle, and responsiveness to help your tissues make their own changes… it does feel good to just stand there and get deeper through time and little tilts of my feet or body, when we both click into that sensation, that's the fun stuff, but the actual amount of pressure used is totally different every session for everyone.

“Does pressure matter?”

Clinical takeaway:
Depth alone is not a treatment variable. The nervous system’s interpretation of pressure determines whether it helps or hinders.
