ReTouch: Rehabilitative Touch Therapy

our society has received unwanted touch at some point in their life; too many of us are physical/sexual abuse survivors. Secondly, many of us are isolated and are unable or anxious to receive touch from family and friends. We either feel unworthy of such attention, unsure how to ask, or have been outcasted for so long that bridging the divide seems impossible. Lastly, many have taken on (or been unwillingly given) the role of constant care-taker, putting others before ourselves and neglecting our own needs and desires. People pleasing has taken precedence over our own need for care and pleasure. Lack of touch can create dissociation and a psychic separation from the body. Paradoxically, it can also imprison us within our bodies. Are you locked out or locked in your body? Are you afraid of human touch? Do you desperately desire it even though you have no idea how to access touch in your life? One powerful key to finding freedom from touch deprivation and/or touch aversion is collaborating with a therapist, doctor, or other medical professional and a Rehabilitative Touch Specialist. As a ReTouch Specialist, I help clients experience HOW to begin feeling comfortable in their skin and start asking for the touch they need and want. In combination with other therapies, where clients can explore WHY they are who they are, clients have amazing results. While learning to request and receive touch may be the goal, this essential work impacts every aspect of a client’s life. When the basic need for touch and connection is met, confidence grows and permeates how people are able to interact with everyone they meet. And the world around them notices and responds!
