Have you been curious about cupping but a little intimidated by the circles? šŸ‘€

Cupping is a technique that uses suction rather than the compression and pressure you typically associate with massage. Depending on the technique and your individual needs, cups may be left in place briefly or moved across the skin.

Some people enjoy cupping as part of a massage session because it offers a completely different sensation than traditional hands-on work and may help them feel more relaxed or less restricted in certain areas.

Like any massage technique, it isn’t automatically right for everyone. Your therapist should consider your health history, skin condition, comfort level, and goals before using it.

Curious about whether cupping could be a good addition to your next session? Ask your massage therapist! šŸ¤

When you start to buffer during your massage and you have to rock with it

Those cupping marks can definitely get people talking. šŸ‘€šŸ˜‚

But the color left behind by a cup is not a reliable report card for ā€œtoxinsā€ or how unhealthy you are.

Cupping creates suction on the skin and underlying tissues, which can cause temporary redness or discoloration. How dark a mark becomes can vary based on factors like suction intensity, how long the cup is applied, the area being treated, and individual differences in the skin and underlying tissue.

During a session, a massage therapist is paying attention to how your tissue and skin respond, your comfort level, and your overall goals—not diagnosing your health based on the color of a circle.

Those marks may look dramatic, but darker doesn’t automatically mean ā€œbetter.ā€ šŸ‘

Just a reminder -> Massage is not JUST for your body. It is also for your mind.

Consistent massage increases people's ability to relax and lowers cortisol (our stress hormone), allowing us to feel more clear-headed and have better cognitive function.

So if you have done a body check and feel great, amazing! Let's do a mental check and see how we are doing internally.

Deep breath in… and let it go. šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

Breathing during a massage isn’t just something to do while you’re on the table—it can actually be an important part of the experience.

As your massage therapist works through areas of tension, you may notice yourself holding your breath or unconsciously bracing your body. That’s where intentional breathing comes in. Slow, deep breaths can help you become more aware of that tension and encourage you to relax into the work instead of fighting against it.

Your massage therapist may even coach you through your breathing during certain techniques. Sometimes, the simple cue to inhale… and exhale can help you stop bracing and feel more comfortable as your body relaxes.

So if your MT asks you to take a deep breath, trust us… we probably have a reason. šŸ˜‰

Save this for your next massage appointment and remember: don’t hold your breath!
