This healthy habit could be making your acne worse.

In fact, I recently discovered it was contributing to a new client’s breakouts…”

I recently had a new acne client come in for a consultation and treatment.
They told me they ate a very clean diet, avoided most sweets, and focused on getting about 100 grams of protein every day.
So I asked what foods they ate regularly.
It turned out they were eating cow-based cheese daily and drinking smoothies made with whey protein powder to help reach their protein goals.
They pulled up a photo of the protein powder, and I immediately knew we had found a potential acne trigger.

Here’s why:
Whey protein comes from cow’s milk, and both whey protein and dairy products can increase hormones that stimulate oil production in the skin.
When excess oil mixes with dead skin cells inside the pores, it can lead to blackheads, clogged pores, and inflamed breakouts.
That’s why what you eat can absolutely affect hormonal acne.
If you’re doing everything right but still breaking out, it may be time to take a closer look at what’s in your smoothie.

This one habit was keeping my client’s acne from healing.”

Let’s talk about fast food and processed foods.
Many people think of fast food as just hamburgers and fries, but it can also include tacos, burrito bowls, pizza, fried foods, and many grab-and-go meals.

I recently worked with an acne client who was eating at these types of restaurants four or five times a week.

When we reviewed their lifestyle and eating habits, this stood out immediately.

The goal wasn’t perfection. The goal was simply to cut back.
As the frequency decreased, the body had a chance to recover, inflammation began to calm down, and the breakouts gradually subsided.
At the same time, increasing water intake helped support the skin’s natural healing processes
When it comes to clearing acne, it’s often not one single food that’s causing the problem.
It’s the daily pattern of highly processed foods, excess sodium, refined carbohydrates, and convenience meals that can keep the acne cycle going.

The good news?
You don’t have to change everything overnight.
Small changes can lead to big improvements in your skin.

“I found the cause of my client’s breakout in the vitamin cabinet.”

I recently had a longtime client come in for a monthly facial, and I noticed a couple of pimples around the mouth.

Normally, a few pimples wouldn’t be a big deal. But this client NEVER breaks out.

So I asked what supplements were being taken.
After the facial, they sent me photos of the supplements so I could review the ingredients and nutrient amounts.

Right away, I noticed there were TWO different hair and nail supplements in the routine.

When I added everything up, the combined amount of biotin and B vitamins was nearly FIVE times higher than necessary.
And here’s the thing: excess biotin and certain B vitamins can absolutely trigger acne in some people.

It’s not just supplements, either. Many energy drinks contain high amounts of these same vitamins.

If you’ve suddenly started breaking out and can’t figure out why, your supplements may be worth investigating.

Hi, I’m Lisa, a licensed esthetician specializing in acne and skin health.

Many people come to me after struggling with acne, rosacea, sensitivity, signs of aging, or other stubborn skin concerns.
What makes my approach different?

I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all facials.

Every treatment starts with understanding what’s happening with the skin, along with the lifestyle habits and other factors that may be contributing to the concern.

Whether the goal is clearing acne, improving pigmentation, reducing sensitivity, restoring hydration, or simply maintaining healthy, glowing skin, every treatment is customized to meet individual needs.

From the moment a client walks through my door, the focus is on comfort, education, and personalized care in a relaxed, judgment-free environment.

My goal isn’t simply to provide a great facial.
My goal is to help clients achieve healthier skin, lasting results, and greater confidence.

I look forward to meeting new clients and helping them feel their best.

When it comes to clearing acne, I don’t like making a hundred changes all at once.

That usually feels overwhelming.

Instead, I like to start with one simple change that can make a big difference.

One of the first things I look at is sugar.

Now, sugar doesn’t directly cause acne, but it can affect what’s happening inside the body.

When sugar intake is high, it can increase oil production and inflammation, which can create an environment where breakouts are more likely to occur.

The good news?

It’s usually not the occasional piece of birthday cake that’s the problem.

What I see more often is a daily pattern of sugary drinks, sweetened coffees, energy drinks, candy, desserts, and processed snacks.

Those habits can keep the acne cycle going.
That’s why my Acne Trigger Guide doesn’t just tell people what to avoid.

It also includes acne-safe alternatives that are easier to incorporate into everyday life.

Because clearing acne doesn’t have to be all or nothing.
Small changes can lead to big improvements.

Another question I get all the time is:

“How do I know what skincare products are right for my skin?”

The best way is to schedule either my First Acne Treatment & Consultation or my “I Don’t Know What I Need” Facial.
While I do offer virtual consultations for clients who live farther away, I always prefer to see someone’s skin in person whenever possible.

Why?

Because your skin tells me so much more when I can actually see it and touch it.
I can evaluate your skin condition, look for signs of dehydration, assess your skin barrier health, and perform sensitivity testing to see how your skin responds to different products and treatments.

I’ve had many people tell me they have sensitive skin, but after evaluating them, we discover the real issue is often dehydration or a compromised skin barrier.

When I can properly assess the skin in person, we usually get better and faster results because we’re treating what’s actually happening instead of guessing.

If you’re tired of trying random products and following conflicting advice online, type CLEAR below.

I’ll send you my Acne Triggers Guide, Acne-Safe Alternatives Guide, plus a $20 credit toward your First Acne Treatment & Consultation or “I Don’t Know What I Need” Facial.

One of the questions I’ve been getting lately is:

“What exactly is an Acne Clearing Program?”

The Acne Clearing Program is designed to help people clear their acne by addressing both what’s happening on the skin and what’s contributing to it behind the scenes.

When a client first comes in, we start with a consultation and acne treatment. I evaluate their skin, identify the type of acne they’re experiencing, and we discuss potential acne triggers.
Those triggers can include things like skincare products, cosmetics, supplements, foods, and even household items.
From there, I create a customized treatment plan that includes professional acne treatments and a personalized home care routine using acne-safe products designed to support healing and restore the skin barrier.
Because acne takes time to clear, we continue with follow-up appointments to monitor progress and make adjustments as needed.

Most clients see significant improvement and move into maintenance within about 3 to 6 months.

If you’re struggling with acne and want a personalized approach instead of guessing what might work, type CLEAR below.

I’ll send you my Acne Triggers Guide, Acne-Safe Alternatives Guide, plus a $20 credit toward your First Acne Treatment & Consultation.

“Want to know who gets the best acne results in my practice?

Adults.”

Most people assume acne is a teenage problem, but the majority of my acne clients are actually adults.
By the time they find me, they’ve usually tried countless products and treatments without success. They’re tired of wasting money and ready to follow a plan that makes sense.

They prioritize their home care routine.
They keep their appointments consistently.
They understand that acne doesn’t clear overnight.
They appreciate professional extractions and trust the process.

And they love treatments like chemical peels because they see their acne marks gradually fade—without having to hide from the world while their skin heals.

The truth is, successful acne treatment isn’t about finding a miracle product. It’s about consistency, education, and having a customized plan that works for your skin.

If you’re an adult struggling with acne, don’t assume you just have to live with it. Clearer skin is possible.
