Thinking about buying a salon or barbershop?

Don't get distracted by buzzwords in a business listing.

Phrases like:

• "Established salon business"
• "Loyal client base"
• "Strong community presence"
• "Recognizable brand"
• "Turnkey opportunity"

Sound great on paper. But before you sign anything, dig deeper.

Ask yourself:

Is this actually a business with systems, profitability, and brand value?

Or is it simply a furnished space with a lease attached to it?

A true business should have:

✔️ Verifiable revenue
✔️ Consistent profit history
✔️ Documented systems and processes
✔️ Client retention data
✔️ A recognizable brand that exists beyond the owner

If a listing mentions an "active social media presence" or "immediate income potential," ask for proof.

Request:

• Profit & Loss Statements
• Bank Statements
• Tax Returns
• Appointment and booking reports
• Retail sales reports
• Client retention metrics

Don't buy based on promises. Buy based on numbers.

Another phrase to be cautious of is "turnkey business."

The equipment, furniture, stations, and décor may have value. But if the business itself isn't profitable, you're essentially buying used equipment and taking over someone else's problems.

Also understand the lease situation.

In many cases, a business sale does not automatically transfer the existing lease. You may be required to negotiate and qualify for a completely new lease with the landlord. Always verify this before moving forward.

One of the biggest mistakes buyers make is assuming they're purchasing a successful business when they're actually purchasing an exit strategy for the seller.

Do your due diligence.

The goal isn't just to own a salon or barbershop.

The goal is to own a profitable business.

Protect yourself, ask hard questions, and verify everything before signing on the dotted line.

This advice is shared to help professionals in our industry avoid costly mistakes and make informed decisions when branching out on their own!

The Booth Rental Survival Guide wasn't created for attention.

It was created because too many talented professionals are getting burned by situations they never saw coming.

I learned early to keep records of every payment, every date, and every dollar. When business relationships go bad, facts matter. Documentation matters.

Most booth renters are taught how to perfect their craft—but nobody teaches them how to protect their business, their income, or their reputation.

That's why this series exists.

Not to create drama.
Not to attack shop owners.

To help beauty professionals protect themselves before problems start.

Because your chair is a business. Your clients are a business. Your reputation is a business.

Knowledge is power. Documentation is protection.

What’s one lesson you learned the hard way as a booth renter? Drop it below and help someone avoid making the same mistake.👇🔥

BOOTH RENTAL SURVIVAL GUIDE IS HERE

For too long, booth renters have been told to sit down, stay quiet, and be grateful.

Especially in small towns.

Why?

Because some shop owners believe they hold all the cards.

They think you won't ask questions.
They think you won't read the contract.
They think you won't challenge unfair policies.
They think you won't leave.

And that's exactly how talented stylists, barbers, braiders, nail techs, tattoo artists, and beauty professionals end up trapped in situations that cost them money, clients, freedom, and peace of mind.

This series is designed to change that.

We're talking about:

⚠️ Hidden contract traps

⚠️ Client ownership battles

⚠️ Illegal and unethical shop practices

⚠️ Intimidation tactics

⚠️ Surprise fees and rule changes

⚠️ What every booth renter should know BEFORE signing anything

Here's the truth:

If you're paying rent, you're running a business.

You are not someone's employee when it's convenient for them and an independent contractor when it's convenient for them.

Knowledge is leverage.

And leverage changes everything.

This isn't about attacking good shop owners.

This is about protecting good people from bad business.

The game is changing.

No more signing blind.
No more being pushed around.
No more learning expensive lessons the hard way.

Welcome to the Booth Rental Survival Guide.

“Just because they own the building doesn’t mean they own your business.” -KCutz

🎯 Tag a barber, stylist, esthetician, nail tech, salon suite owner, or booth renter who needs to see this.

POV: They ask what you’re up to this weekend… and for the first time in 5 years, I’m missing my favorite hair show. 😭✂️

But at Hendry Street, staying educated and ahead of the trends isn’t optional — it’s what makes us better behind the chair every single day.

So while I’m having major FOMO, I’m already planning the next show we CAN make it to… because growth, education, and leveling up never stop over here. 💯🔥

The industry moves fast. We move faster.
