We’ve talked about how to prep it, color it, install it, maintain it, and when to reinstall it. But what about when you need a break from it entirely? 🤔

Every client asks it at some point. “So do I take these home or…?”

Short answer: they stay with me. But let me explain when, why, and what actually happens to them while they’re here.

If you’re taking a short break between sets — a vacation, a life event, a few weeks off — I’ll hold onto them for you. Anything past 6 weeks though and I’m not storing them anymore. Liability, storage, and honestly hair that sits too long without being worn starts to degrade in ways that aren’t worth it. At that point they go home with you and we start fresh when you’re ready.

For the short term storage situation, here’s what happens before they ever go in a box:

✨ First they get a clarifying wash and a deep conditioning treatment. Whatever buildup, product, or life is in that hair needs to come out before it sits anywhere.

✨ Then a full blowout to 100% dry and a flat iron pass so they’re smooth, wrinkle free, and stored in the best possible condition.

✨ After they’re prepped they go into their own box with your name, the weft type, and the weight. The weight isn’t strictly necessary but I like knowing how many grams a client has been wearing in case we decide to switch things up next time.

✨ Then they get stored safely away from harsh elements, humidity, and free radicals. 👻

It’s a small thing but it matters. Hair that’s been properly stored comes back in so much better condition than hair that’s been shoved in a bag on someone’s bathroom counter for two months. No judgment, just facts. 😄
