Class is back in session!

After a summer off, we warmly welcomed to our Workshop Wednesday, Breathwork for Bodyworkers, taught by Michelle Quigley Pearson. What a warming workshop it was.

We first visited our own breath experience. With the comforting guidance of Michelle, we explored the potential of ease and rhythm in our own breathing, and the myriad of ways breath affects our own bodies.

Then, we moved to the tables where we practiced using verbal and non-verbal cues to help a client discover ease in their breath, without being told to “take a deep breath”, as this can often have a limited range within its intended affect.

Instead, self-discovery through ease was the name of this game.

Some of the skills that we explored were:
placing a heavy bag on the belly, breathing into your back instead of your chest/belly, asking the client to breathe down into their feet, and various hand placement locations with guidance.

Our emotions influence our breath. This, we all experience all day/every day. Receiving some easeful breath tending (not work) while receiving massage can be transformative to your emotions as well as your breathing.

We have been dear friends for 25 years. And now we are lucky enough to work alongside each other here at The Still Point. Me, Diedra, owner, pictured left. She, Heather, pictured right.

Heather has a background in marketing, editing and also consulting heart-centered businesses like the ones that I’ve always run.
Back when I was in private practice, she was an invaluable source of support in helping me to develop my professional voice.

We have facilitated women’s groups and retreats together, we have worked on big projects together, we have been through thick and thin as friends.

Heather is the engine of support for me and the crew. She makes sure our books and communication runs smoothly and kindly, she is a pillar of insight and wisdom for how this place is run.

I am so grateful to have her here with the crew. I can’t imagine doing this with anyone else.

Tiny businesses are known to have a whole lot of heart behind them! Pictured here are two.

A warm welcome to Hana, who joined our team this month. It feels as if they have always been a part of our team, we are so glad to have them!

Hana offers a unique blend of massage therapy and reiki energy. Their massage therapy work can draw from Swedish, deep tissue, acupressure and craniosacral therapy. They are additionally skilled in grief massage.

Their style is intuitive and emergent - listening to the signals of the body and letting each session unfold according to the clients specific needs. Guided by a profound belief in the body’s innate capacity to heal, they masterfully create a space where clients can slow down, release pain and integrate healing.

I’m here after hours to tend to a few things, and while I’m here, I’m struck by the beauty of the shadows.

New Therapist Announcement: Welcome, Bridget! We are so glad that you are here.

Bridget is a bodyworker whose intuitive, trauma-sensitive approach blends Swedish massage, Myofascial Release, Lymphatic Facilitation, and Craniosacral-inspired touch, shaped to meet each person’s body exactly where it is.

Drawing on holistic healing traditions including energy work and Curanderismo, she creates a space where clients can slow down, soften, and listen inward, gently supporting the nervous system toward rest and integration.
Her work resonates especially with highly sensitive people, caregivers, helping professionals, and anyone navigating chronic illness, fatigue, grief, stress, or a season of transition.

Whatever brings you in — physical discomfort, nervous system support, or simply a place to exhale — you’re welcome exactly as you are, and you’ll leave her table feeling more grounded, more present, and more at home in your own body.

Bridget is here on Saturdays and Tuesdays.

June’s Workshop Wednesday was a spirit-expanding, heart-warming, understanding-elevating discussion with Colette Crawford, who has been serving the birth & family community of Seattle as a nurse, yoga instructor and craniosacral therapist for 40 years. She is the founder of Sri Janani Yoga in Greenlake, where she has been supporting families & mamas in session, in class, and in community for 30 years.

We invited her to join us to share her wisdom on the relational field that affects a client while in session. This could be a parent who is present for their child, a caregiver, or even family and ancestors who are not in the room.

It is a meaningful truth that we carry all the people we know and love, as well as the generations who have come before us, with us all the time, and that they have a big impact on who we are and how we feel in our bodies.

A core value of our practice to tend to our client’s sense of safety. This is a complex and sacred job. We venture to many corners of our inner and outer universe to gain understanding and to grow our sensitive skillsets that we tend with.
