Sometimes I wish people could see what it really means to be a hairstylist.

In one week, we can walk through so many seasons of life with the people who sit in our chairs.

This week, I grieved alongside a widow. I comforted a friend battling cancer. And tomorrow, I’ll say goodbye to a client who has trusted me with her hair, her stories, and pieces of her life for 25 years as she moves away. ❤️

And somewhere in between, there were laughs, celebrations, exciting news, heartbreak and new beginnings.

As hairstylists, we’re often some of the first to know.

The pregnancy.
The engagement.
The breakup.
The diagnosis.
The promotion.
The loss.
The news they haven’t told anyone else yet.

Our clients trust us with so much more than their hair.

We listen. We celebrate. We cry. We laugh. Sometimes we give advice, and sometimes we simply give them a safe place to be.

So when someone says, “It’s just hair,” I understand why it might look that way from the outside.

But to me, it has never been just hair.

Somewhere between the appointments, colour formulas, foils and blowouts, clients become friends… and friends become family.

To every person who has ever sat in my chair and trusted me with your hair, your stories, your tears, your celebrations and all the pieces of life in between…
