Every year, I grow because of Girls Camp.

On social media you see five days of camp. You don't see the 365 days that lead up to it.

A whole year of securing funding. Planning logistics. Recruiting volunteers. Hiring, onboarding, and training interns. Collecting supplies until my house looks like a warehouse. Meetings. Budgets. Spreadsheets. Phone calls. Late nights. And then doing an after-action review to pick apart every mistake we made because we refuse to settle for "good enough."

Every summer I think, "We've got it. This is the most well-oiled machine we've ever had."

And every summer, camp humbles me.

No matter how many years we've done this, no matter how much we improve, there is always a bigger challenge waiting for me every summer. Something I couldn't have prepared for. Something that forces me to adapt, lead differently, and trust the people around me.

Growth isn't easy.

Camp pushes me out of my comfort zone every single year. It pushes me to examine my leadership. It pushes me to understand young people better. But more than anything, it pushes me to understand myself. Who Acacia is. Where I'm strong. Where I need to grow. Where I need to accept help.

Volunteering for a few hours is one thing. Volunteering for an entire week, being "on" from the moment you wake up until the moment you finally lay your head down, that changes you. It strips away the version of yourself that's comfortable and reveals the leader you're becoming.

Ten years later, I'm still learning. Still growing. Still being challenged.

Our youngest camper this year was just 6 years old... and she crushed it!

She made new friends, tried new things, and by the end of the week was dancing the night away at Club Hattie B.!
