Emily's Hope is a Sioux Falls, South Dakota-based nonprofit founded in 2019 in memory of Emily Groth, who died at age 21 from fentanyl poisoning. What began as a mother's grief became a mission to prevent others from experiencing the same devastating loss.
Today, Emily's Hope operates a comprehensive, multi-pronged response to the overdose crisis through four core programs: a K–12 substance use prevention curriculum now reaching students statewide and designated as an evidence-based program by the state of South Dakota; a naloxone distribution network that has placed more than 20,000 life-saving kits in communities across the region; the POST-Overdose Response Team (PORT), South Dakota's first program of its kind, connecting individuals who have survived an overdose with treatment resources and support; and a youth engagement initiative that includes middle and high school coalitions and clubs, as well as an annual youth art competition that empowers young people to express their commitment to a drug-free life through creative expression.
