More than a college paper.
Yesterday I “had” to volunteer for a group project with an area organization that helped the community with an emphasis on nutrition. To say I was humbled was an understatement.
I had the most profound experience with Guardian Angel Settlement Assn that I already signed up to go back. I left my experience shattered. It’s something we all know exists, but rarely have the opportunity to see up close. Over 5200 families struggling to put food on the table and meet the basic needs of their families. Another chapter of me asking what is this world? How can we not want to be a part of something greater when the need is so significant?
It was more than an assignment. It was humbling in all stretches of the world. I was lucky enough to connect with members on a personal level. Asking questions about their needs and trying to understand their struggles. One woman (pictured) was so brave and selfless to invite me into her life. The life of trying to pick up the pieces after incarceration and trauma beyond the scope of what’s even possible to understand. I had to document my journey and have to use these images to create a presentation. But it’s so much more. This presentation is more than an assignment. It’s a plea to so many of you who could help. Donations are just the beginning.
So if you’re looking for a reprieve from a dark world that seems to be all consuming, this is the place. Never have I seen such amazing humans run an organization rooted in empowerment and dignity. Nutrition is just the gateway to helping change these lives and there’s so much more we can do. Please, please, please let me know what you can do to help. I’d love to stand along side you when you volunteer. It was just what the doctor ordered. ♥️

Actual footage of me owning a business, being a full time nursing student, and calling out each and every antisemite online. What is earth? 🎢
Just whipped together a little scary flair while high on Zyrtec and Flonase studying for a midterm. What Yuli wants, Yuli gets.
That’s enough internet for today. ⚠️🚩🎪💣🌪️

Life update. 📣🎢🍿
Age 41. Business owner of 10 years. Esthetician 17. Mother. Wife. Elderly caregiver. A perimenopausal woman who showers with the curtain open. (F?!$ hot flashes) and now a
NURSING STUDENT. 📚💥
I made the decision 1000 times over to go back to school. I just never pulled the trigger. It’s not easy at this stage of life, nor at all something I’d recommend in perimenopause. But if there’s anything I know about myself, I thrive in chaos. The bigger the challenge, the bigger the reward. I spent the entire summer mapping out my plan in silence. I tried to imagine life this semester and how I’d do it all. I needed to imagine it before it could happen. I finally gave in. I just did “it. Enrolled in classes and started Monday. I have two semesters of my prerequisites and then jump head first into a 16 month accelerated BSN.
Nurse Jodi isn’t at all random or strange. I worked from age 18 to 28 in healthcare. I worked geriatrics, icu, psych, interventional medicine, cardiology, and beyond. I know more than someone should without the degree behind my name. I have been delaying this for years. I started years ago and got burnt out working in healthcare. I pivoted on a break from nursing school and became an esthetician. Never imagining I’d own a business. Never imagining 20 years would pass in the blink on an eye. But here we are.
The industry has changed. I have changed. If you would have told me what esthetics would look like today I wouldn’t have believed you. I wouldn’t even listen. It’s not at all the reality of where it was when I started. Good? Bad? I’ll let you decipher. I love what I do, but…….its time. It’s time for me to be the best version of who I am. I am smart. I am gifted. I’m absolutely relentless. I’m opinionated. I’m passionate. I’m devoted to results. I’m determined. For myself and for everyone I take care of. Just ask my private duty client. She really made me realize what Gd wanted from me.
So if you see me less or hear from me less, here’s why. If you think I’ve thrown in the towel, I’m just getting ready for a new load of laundry. You know how I love laundry.

Let me start by saying this isn’t your ewwy-gooey emotional post about a sadness of summer end. It’s a real monumental moment for me where my guilt goes to die and better self may emerge. It’s a feeling of deep sigh that I made it through a summer of trying to feel human while navigating a very difficult season of life. The one where you have to work and balance activities, camps, play dates, and every other summer “fun”. Add in LIFE.
This whole post relates to something so apparent in the public eye right now. A willingness to be honest about struggling and feeling like you can’t ever really be honest. Fear of judgment and fear of being labeled a complainer. Fear of expressing your difficulties managing it all. Fear of not knowing what to say when another parent looks at you at orientation and says we’re not ready for this summer to end, but you have no idea how to relate. You just simply smile. What else do you do?
Motherhood is something everyone experiences differently. Although many people examine it under a microscope based on their own opinions and lifestyle. They imagine that their unique situation is reflective of everybody and everything. It’s simply not true. The feeling of overwhelmed and guilt play a role in every day that I’m a mother. Am I doing enough? Is it wrong to feel so lonely because you don’t want anyone to think you’re not a good mom? That your way of trying to manage it is wrong? That the picture perfect summer isn’t a reel on ig because you simply had to work so hard to keep it all together?
If people had real empathy for struggling in any capacity, maybe there wouldn’t be so much judgment. Maybe the expectation could change if we weren’t forced to swallow a picture perfect portrayal of a journey that’s just simply not explained in “REEL” time.
Motherhood is so hard and if we were allowed to admit it openly to inspire empathy rather than fearing judgment……things may be different. Maybe more women wouldn’t feel chastised for being exhausted, overwhelmed, and somewhat depleted. It’s not about the reel. It’s about the REAL. We are not AI. We’re human. Mothers…….
I hope this speaks to someone. ♥️
