“Active” or “Active Ingredients” are terms used to describe the ingredients in your skincare that produce the desired effect or claim of the product.

That daily supplement may be doing more than you think.

A lot of women start breaking out and never think to check the label on their daily vitamin. Some multivitamins are packed with high doses of biotin and B12-two ingredients that can be a hidden trigger for acne-prone skin.

Biotin is often added for hair, skin, and nails, but in excess it can disrupt the balance of other B vitamins, which plays a role in skin barrier function and oil regulation. For acne-prone skin, this imbalance can sometimes lead to more congestion, increased oiliness, and stubborn breakouts.

Vitamin B12 can also be a trigger for some people. Studies suggest excess B12 may change the bacteria on the skin and increase inflammatory pathways, which can lead to sudden acne flare ups, especially around the cheeks, chin, and jawline.
