🌿 Today, we give thanks to Elecampane. 🌿
Inula helenium is one of those gloriously unglamorous plants that spends all summer growing enormous leaves, then quietly hides her treasure underground. Today we dug up those roots and started a fresh batch of our Elecampane Oxymel for cold & flu season. 🫙✨
Elecampane root has a long history in traditional herbalism for coughs, thick or stubborn mucus, chest congestion, and respiratory support, particularly when things feel like they’ve settled deep in the lungs.
And what the heck is an oxymel? It’s old-school herbal medicine at its finest: herbs infused in honey + apple c***r vinegar, creating a sweet, tart herbal preparation with roots stretching back thousands of years.
As a mom of three teenagers, this golden little jar has made MANY appearances in our house during cold and flu season. Because apparently teenagers are capable of bringing home every respiratory crud known to humankind. 😂
From the dirt → to the jar → to the family medicine cabinet.

🧙♀️POTIONS & PROPHECIES ON HALLOWEEN 🎃
This Halloween, come make a little plant magic with us at Fiddlehead Forest! 🎃
Our Potion Making Bar is for kids AND grown-ups because frankly, adults deserve to make potions too. 😂🖤 You’ll get to choose from traditional herbs, learn a little about each plant, what it has historically been used for, and why you might choose it for your potion. Then blend up something magical to take home!
It’s Halloween fun with a sneaky little dose of plant education tucked inside. 🌿✨ Come curious. Leave knowing a little more about the plants growing all around us.
🔮 Kat Powers will be in the house doing Tarot readings! Appointments are first come, first served, so wander in early, grab some warm tea, make a potion, and see what the cards have to say.

🌿 Fresh Poultices are back this Saturday! 🌿
One of the oldest forms of herbal care, a poultice is fresh plant material crushed and applied directly to the skin, allowing the herbs to meet the body exactly where they’re needed.
Ours are hand-muddled fresh each week with marshmallow leaf & root, plantain, comfrey, aloe, calendula, beeswax and olive oil. Traditionally, these plants have been used to soothe irritated or inflamed skin, minor burns, bites, bumps, bruises, dry or chapped skin, and support the skin’s natural healing process.
No powders. No mystery ingredients. Just plants, hands, and an old way of doing things. 🌿🖤
Available in-store Saturdays only, while supplies last.

Today, for one fleeting moment in the turning of the year, light and darkness stand in balance. Neither conquers the other. Both belong.
For our ancestors, the autumn equinox marked a threshold. The fields were being gathered, food preserved, herbs dried, seeds saved, and preparations made for the darker half of the year. Across many European folk traditions, harvest time carried themes of gratitude, abundance, protection, feasting, and honoring the cycles of the land. 🌾
There is something beautiful in that old wisdom.
Nature does not cling to summer.
The trees do not mourn every falling leaf.
The earth simply turns inward.
And perhaps we are meant to do the same.
Today we give thanks for what grew, release what has finished its season, and remember that darkness is not the absence of life. Beneath fallen leaves and cooling soil, roots are still alive. Seeds are waiting. Rest is part of the cycle too.
So light a candle. Gather apples, herbs, acorns or fallen leaves. Share a meal. Thank the land. Take a moment to notice what you have harvested in your own life this year, and what you are ready to lay down.
🍎 For abundance.
🌿 For the medicine of the earth.
🕯️ For balance between light and dark.
🍂 For the beautiful turning of the wheel.
Happy Autumn Equinox, friends.
May your harvest be plentiful, your home warm, and your roots deep.
