One of the biggest differences between a good wax and a safe wax is something you may never even see.
I’m so glad my client chose self-care today, but I also want to take a moment to educate you on why choosing a licensed esthetician matters.
Double-dipping happens when the same waxing stick is placed back into the wax pot after touching a client’s skin. It may seem harmless, but it can contaminate the wax with bacteria that can affect every client afterward.
The Top 3 Bacteria That Can Be Introduced Into a Wax Pot:
🦠 1. Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA)
Commonly found on our skin and inside the nose, this bacteria can cause:
• Folliculitis
• Boils
• Painful skin infections
• Abscesses
🦠 2. Streptococcus Species
Another common skin bacteria that can lead to:

Wax is typically heated to 125°F–150°F (50°C–65°C).
While it feels hot on your skin, it is NOT hot enough to kill bacteria. Sterilization requires temperatures above 212°F (100°C) for a sustained period.
That means a contaminated wax pot can become an environment where bacteria survive and spread if proper sanitation isn’t followed.
