Does your diet actually affect your dry scalp? Let’s settle this. 👆

I get this question constantly, so let’s break it down properly. Diet, water intake, and product usage are always the first three things I check when a client comes in with dry scalp or flaking, before I even touch a product.

Sugar spikes inflammation in the body, and that inflammation often shows up on your scalp first. Dairy can be a hidden trigger too, driving excess oil production and sensitivity for a lot of people. And underneath both of those, water is the real foundation. No product works as well as it should if the hair and scalp are dehydrated from the inside out.

This is why a single “miracle product” almost never fixes a dry, flaky scalp on its own. It’s diet, water, and the right products, working together. That’s the actual formula.

If you’ve been fighting an unexplained dry scalp for a while, this might be exactly why.

Text to book your consultation and let’s figure out what your scalp actually needs. 📲

Rebél Red Flags. Let’s talk about it. 🚩

As a stylist AND as a client, there are certain things I’m just not going for. Here’s what’s on my no list and why.

Red flag #1: Come washed.
This one skips one of the most important parts of a real appointment. A proper consultation starts with a shampoo, not after it. That’s when I check scalp condition, moisture level, breakage, and overall hair health, before any style ever goes in. Asking clients to show up pre-washed removes that safety check completely, and it’s how tension, buildup, and damage go unnoticed until it’s already a problem.

Red flag #2: Don’t wash your hair for at least 3 months.
No. This is one of the fastest ways to cause buildup, odor, and long term scalp issues, and it puts the whole health of the hair at risk just to “protect a style.” A style is never worth sacrificing scalp health for. Locs specifically should never go past 3 months without a shampoo, and honestly even that is pushing it.

Red flag #3: No deposit required.
This isn’t about the money, it’s about respect for time. A deposit is what protects both the client’s appointment slot and the stylist’s schedule. Without one, no shows and last minute cancellations become the norm, which affects real income and real time that could’ve gone to someone serious about their appointment. Professional services require a professional structure, front to back.

At J. Rebél Hair, the standard doesn’t move. Healthy hair, honest scheduling, and real accountability, every time.

Y’all keep asking what products I use… so let’s talk about it. 💧

The NUMBER 1 locing agent isn’t a product at all…it’s WATER. Everything else just supports what water is already doing.

That’s why my go-to on every single client is J. Rebél Rosewater + Lemongrass Black Castor Oil. No exceptions. No client left out.

Here’s why this combo works:
💧 Rosewater hydrates without weighing the hair down
💧 It helps balance and soothe the scalp
💧 Castor oil seals that moisture in so it actually stays
💧 Lemongrass supports a clean, refreshed scalp
💧 Together, they hydrate AND strengthen — the exact one-two punch locs need

I don’t guess with what goes on your hair. I use what I trust, on every head that sits in my chair.

If your current routine is missing water and moisture-sealing, that’s usually where the dryness starts.

Hot take:

Not every style needs to be practical. Some hair exists to be photographed. To be felt. To be remembered.

I go to hair shows. I create for shoots. I study form and silhouette.

Sometimes hair is less appointment… more installation piece.

That’s why my work looks the way it does.
