This BEAUTIFUL mother of the bride sat in my chair with one request:

“I want FULL glam. Give me the blush, lashes, the sparkle, the glow… but please don’t use powder or make me matte.”

Some artists might hear that and think, “That’s going to be difficult.”

I hear, “Tell me why.”

As an artist you want to give your client the best to make sure they look great but also that it lasts! Every client tells you what they want. The real artistry is knowing how to honor both!!

Behind requests like these is almost always a story. Maybe they’ve had a makeup artist use too much powder in the past. Maybe they associate powder with looking cakey, dry, or older. Maybe they’ve never experienced powder applied in a way that actually enhances the skin. Whatever the reason, it’s valid.

My job isn’t to convince someone they’re wrong. It’s to understand their concerns, educate them when appropriate, and create a look that makes them feel beautiful while staying true to their vision!

Sometimes artistry isn’t about adding more or less makeup. It’s about knowing why you’re using every product, the technique and when to use it.✨

In this case, after talking through her concerns, I explained why I use powder and how the right amount, placed in the right areas, actually helps makeup look smoother, photograph beautifully, and last longer without looking heavy.

She trusted me. 🫶🏼

And by the end of her appointment, she looked in the mirror and said she loved it!

Not because I convinced her to like it—but because I listened first, understood her concerns, and used it with intention.

That’s the difference between simply applying makeup and creating an experience where your client feels heard, understood, and confident. ✨
