There are LOTS of reasons that shedding can be happening. It’s normal to lose between 50-100 hairs per day! But the change of seasons can also add to this. The reduced hours of daylight and shift in temperatures causes hair follicles to go into a “resting phase” known as the telogen phase. The telogen phase typically lasts 2-3 months and 5%-15% of the hairs on your head are usually in this phase at any given time. Luckily, the growth cycle “anagen phase” last between 2-8 years! But, the reduced hours of daylight in the winter means we are receiving less vitamin D than normal. Vitamin D supports your hair growth cycle! So some ways you can prepare to combat this is taking a hair, skin, nail multivitamin with vitamin D, biotin and when you start turning your heater on a good deep conditioning treatment can also help keep your hair moisturized to prevent breakage!
