It's National Beard Day, so I can't let this go by without shouting out the "beard" that keeps this salon running when things break. Thank you, Matt, for putting up with my crazy ideas, and also making them happen! 🥰

You don't need to shampoo your hair daily.
I know everyone has their own beliefs on this, but in my experience, daily is too often. Why?
Every time you shampoo, you are washing or stripping your scalp and hair of it's natural oils. When you shampoo too frequently, you hair becomes dehydrated, and your scalp works overtime to replenish what was removed. Then you end up with oily scalp and dry ends... and no one loves that.
I suggest shampooing as often as your HAIR is dirty. If your hair isn't dirty, but your scalp is oily, or you don't like how your scalp feels, "wash" it with water, not shampoo. A heavy rinse of your scalp, and conditioner on mids and ends if needed is a perfect in between fix! Let me know if you do this, or if you try it out!

🌿4 things I don't do as your curl specialist.🌿
1. I don't use the curl type chart. Every curly I have seen has at least 2 or 3 types, so why put you in a box?
2. There is no "perfect" product that will work on everyone's hair. Let's work to find the right one for YOU.
3. I cut your hair to the style we both feel will work best for you. Everyone's curls and daily routine is different. I want your cut to be yours, not a brand specific look.
4. There is no judgement when you walk in. You may know alot, or a little. If you are learning still, I will help you. If you know what you're doing, great, let's refine or review what's working. If you are just starting out, I got you. We will do this together.

Top 3 reasons we lose hair

Those photos are of my own shedding before, during and after a shower. With wearing a bun, I can go several days with it up before it gets brushed. I know my curly girls can relate. I know it's scary to see gobs of hair after the shower. What we don't always remember is how many days we go between "removing" the hairs that have naturally shed. 50-100 hairs a day adds up, and can look like alot!
If you have personal questions on if your hair shed is normal or not, I would be happy to talk to you about it! Next week, we will talk about the Top 3 reasons I see hair changes. Stay tuned!

From the bottom of my heart, to the tippy top. These are my favorite 2 men in the whole world. One loves me and helped mold my character into what it is, and one chose to love me just as I am, forever. 💙

Do you love to wear your hair down, but know it's going to be too hot for that this summer? Here is 3 ways to wear it up and still be put together.
🌿Using a flat-lay clip (my fave), twist half your hair into a french twist, clip and you have a voluminous pulled back style, but still down a bit. Here's a link to a good clip if you don't have one.

🌿If you have LOTS of hair, this one is for you. Instead of a single pony tail that pulls down, do 2 or 3 that are close to each other. They don't get pulled down by the weight of your hair, but its still up and out of the way! Here's the best hair-ties around

🌿Now if it's so hot out that you just can't stand it touching you at all, welcome to bun life! If you've been in the salon before, chances are you have seen me in a bun. these french pins are the easiest way to secure your hair, and quickly! All I need is 1 hair-tie, 1 pin, and about 2 min for my hair to be out of my way, and I am ready to roll.

If you have done any of these, let me know what you think. If you have have 1 you want to try out, I would love to see it!

💨 Air Dry or 🥵 Diffuse?
This is something I discuss alot in the salon.
I do not believe there is a 1 size fits all for drying your hair, whether you are curly or not. I DO feel like there is a reason to choose 1 over another. So lets talk about it a little.
AIRDRYING
Assuming you use the correct products, you will always have a softer look, a little fuzzy or frizzy. This style *might* stay, but there is a higher chance that you will be refreshing or re-styling daily. If this fits in your daily life, great! If you're looking for more style retention, less frizz and more defined curls, you will need to look at drying/diffusing.
DRYING/DIFFUSING
You added all the correct products, and now we dry or diffuse. By immediately drying your hair, you are making the intentional choice to hold your style in longer. Drying (with products) helps seal water into the hair, which keeps your hair from getting frizzy, because it has all the water it needs inside. Frizz is your hair looking for moisture. Drying will lock in that style, and paired with a bonnet or satin pillowcase, your style should last days.
If you need more detailed help with this, and choosing what works best for you, I would be happy to help!
