One day, one meal, one product at a time making our home & life A Little Less Toxic®

I don’t turn every bird into three meals. Sometimes it’s a dinner and maybe a lunch for us 4. But always bone broth too.

But I do sometimes get multiple dinners out of one chicken! With added ingredients to the meals like peas and bone broth for protein and nourishment. And it looks something like this when I do.

Based on my calculations, the chicken salad bowl dinner gave us 20-30 grams of protein each, depending on serving size and the pot pie gave us each 25-35 grams of protein depending on serving size, just in case you’re curious.

Well, alrighty then …

“I ate ___ as a kid and turned out fine” was never good enough for me. Especially when I know I can make those things with simple swaps and real food ingredients and help my kids’ bodies (and the rest of ours!) have the support they need to turn out ✨their best!✨

Eating and living healthier doesn’t mean you have to miss out.

In fact, the old me that ate all the conventional things and lived all the conventional ways and “turned out fine” was the one missing out.

Chronic pain and low grade ailments I had accepted as normal were slowing me down and stealing from me. My kids aren’t missing out on fun food. They get all the fun and all the nourishment too 💪🏼

Every time we camp we say things like, “I wish so and so could be here!” and “Why don’t more people camp?!” and “See, this is why camping is awesome.” I think I even sent a voice memo to friends from this trip proclaiming that camping seems like a lot of work but there’s really nothing quite like the memories made, community vibes, team building experiences, and fun had living outdoors for a few days.

These are a few of my favorite things for making that camp life a little smoother and, of course, A Little Less Toxic. I hope it’s helpful, but more than that I hope we can be a little encouragement to get you on your next camping adventure or maybe your first ever!

📋I’ve got a 16 page Camping Guide I made for you and me both. It has checklists, links, discounts, meal plans, and just about everything you might need to help you prepare for a successful camping trip. 100% free. Just wanna help us both get out there and camp more!

🪴I had the honor of being a guest on the podcast, Grounded Wellness, hosted by . They film on the farm (my favorite place to get our meat!). It’s also where (founded by Bethany herself) was born. So many of my favorite people and things all in one BEAUTIFUL location. What a treat.

🌱While making arrangements, Bethany and I realized we have very similar walking getups (even down to our organic leggings and grounding shoes💪🏼) so I obv packed mine for shenanigans. Bethany willingly participated in my nonsense and I’ve been waiting for months to get to share this video with you.

I’ve also been waiting those months to share our episode with you!!

I’m a big fan a fun beverage. It’s fun to custom make your own and it’s nice to be able to pick some up locally on occasion. I don’t live in extremes and I’ll not turn down a sparkling water with the natural flavors when that’s what’s offered. I’m just sharing some brands and options because I love to see brands making products with more ingredient transparency and simpler, better for us ingredients. I also love finding new-to-me items that are doing it better and thought I might share in case I can introduce you to some new-to-you goodies.
As always, we are not perfectionists. We do what we can, with what we’re able, and as it makes sense for us. Be present. Enjoy your community. Have gratitude.
Celebrate. Be joy-filled. Have a great time.
Fun beverages are just that. Fun beverages. They’re not necessary. Annnnnd when we enjoy them it’s awesome to have options that are A Little Less Toxic.

When making this I saw Olipop is have a 25% off sale. I linked it in my stories.

Food “freedom” doesn’t have to mean abusing our bodies. A body unnecessarily burdened isn’t so free to do all the things it’s called to do or do them well, ya know?

Fun food can absolutely be nourishing. Celebrations don’t have to tax our bodies. That doesn’t feel very freeing.

Alsoooo…it’s one day. Don’t stress yourself out trying to do everything “perfectly.” Stress is toxic too. 😉

You know my motto:
✨ Do what you can, with what you’re able, and as it makes sense for you. ✨

Here’s an updated roundup of some of my favorite options for summertime gatherings and your 4th of July BBQ. They aren’t all perfect (we’re A Little Less Toxic, not perfectionists 😅), but when I have the choice, I look for ingredient transparency and simpler, real-food ingredients whenever possible.

The good news? Those options are becoming easier and easier to find because we, the consumers, are shifting the market with our purchases. 🙏🏼💪🏼🙌🏼

One last reminder: products and ingredients change over time, so always “put the thang down, flip it, and reverse it.” 😄 Turn it over and read the ingredient list so you can make informed choices for yourself, your family, and your wallet.

Back to the canned beans convo (see previous post if you missed it).

Canned foods can be a great, budget friendly, convenient, long shelf life item to keep around. See the last slide for some of my canned pantry staples. This isn’t about fearing the can. This is just sharing info that I was surprised to learn and found helpful because it may help you too!

Of course, fresh, organic, homegrown, regenerative grown, and all that is even better. I’m showing a convenience option that also happens to be very budget friendly. We don’t live in extremes in this here corner of the interwebs. Fear is toxic. Extremism is toxic. We are A Little Less Toxic around here.

🎶Beans, beans, the magical fruit, the more ya eat the more ya… 🤔

Stope the madness!! Those t***s are an INDICATOR. While *some* gas may be sorta normal, it’s often a sign your body isn’t digesting things as well as it could be. Some genetics and some guts have a harder time with some foods than others do. Sometimes it’s that the gut needs healing. Sometimes it’s that the food isn’t being grown or prepared in ways that make them the most digestible and beneficial. Sometimes it both.

🌱PSA: Beans are seeds. And like all seeds, they were designed to survive until the conditions are right for new life to grow. To do that, they contain protective compounds that help keep them dormant and safeguard their nutrients. Traditionally, many cultures soaked, fermented, or sprouted beans before eating them. These simple preparation methods help signal to the seed that it’s time to grow, reducing some of its protective compounds and making its nutrients more available. That’s why I treat beans like the seeds they are. A little planning and preparation helps make them gentler on my body and allows me to get more of the nourishment they were designed to provide.

Making beans at home has been a very simple way we get the benefits of the nutrients from beans while being gentler on our guts, reducing the toxins like plastic/polymer lining getting into our food and bodies, and saving money!

I’m not advocating for fearing the can. We have some canned items on hand for times of need and also because they make great emergency food prep. I just didn’t know this info and once I realized, I made some simple and sustainable changes that have benefited us. I thought you may want to know this info too 🙏🏼
