Ide's Gary Ave Gold Honey
We are an urban honey company in mid-town Tulsa. Our bee hives produce limited quantities of Gary Avenue Gold, as liquid honey and honey comb. its not about us.
Lots of people talk about bees. People are in love with them. We'll join them in talking about bees, but in addition, we're doing something about them. Keeping bees is more than earning a merit badge on your green/homesteader/environmentalist sash. Its caring for living, breathing life forms. It's about the bees. That's why we prefer to say we keep bees, rather than to say 'We're beekeepers' . It's a matter of focus.

It’s starting. Gary Avenue Gold Honey-Wheat Beer 🍺 is really going to be a thing. Who knows? Maybe even the Next Big Thing. Made with our own honey. 🍯 + 🍺! Could it get any better?

This year’s harvest has been great. In order to move all this honey, the CEO has ordered all departments to submit ways to sell it. The marketing department is thinking way out of the box. Basically it’s a mashup of the Oscar Meyer Wiener Mobile and Buzz, our BeeDog. I’m sure Finance is going to pull the purse strings tightly when funding for the prototype is requested. But creative folks gotta create, right?

This year’s honey harvest is almost done. At the beginning, I was wondering how I was going to hold up. The answer is “get some help”. It’s true that “you gotta know a guy”. Well, these are my guys. Very capable of pulling honey. If you’re getting up there, but you want to stay in the game, get yourself a guy or two.

The mourning dove builds the worst nest in North America.
And they're incredibly successful anyway.
→ Nest materials: 3-5 sticks. That's it. Sometimes just 2.
→ Built in 2-4 hours
→ Eggs regularly visible through gaps in the bottom
→ Wind blows nests apart constantly
→ They nest on flat surfaces: porch railings, AC units, hanging baskets, car bumpers
BUT:
→ Mourning doves are the MOST abundant native land bird in North America
→ Estimated 475 MILLION in the US
→ They breed up to 6 TIMES per year (compensating for bad nests with sheer volume)
→ Both parents produce 'crop milk' (nutrient-rich secretion) to feed chicks
→ Chicks leave the nest in just 12-14 days
Their strategy:
→ Don't waste energy on architecture
→ Breed constantly
→ Overwhelm mortality with NUMBERS
It's not bad engineering.
It's a different philosophy.
'Move fast and break nests.' 😂
