Ellen McKizzie – Author Biography
Author • Poet • Creator • Inspiration Through Words
Ellen McKizzie is a California-based author, poet, and creative educator whose work is rooted in resilience, healing, hope, and the power of the human spirit. Through heartfelt poetry, inspirational writing, and engaging children's books, she shares life experiences that encourage readers to find strength during difficult times and embrace the beauty of personal growth.
Born on March 27, 1947, in Long Beach, California, and raised in Compton, Ellen later made her home in the High Desert of Southern California, where she continues to write and create. A devoted mother, grandmother, and lifelong storyteller, she draws inspiration from her family, her faith, and the many experiences that have shaped her journey.
Ellen first captured readers' hearts with her poetry collection From Tragedy to Triumph (2018), a deeply personal work that reflects both pain and perseverance while offering messages of peace, love, and hope. She followed with Twisted Mind, a powerful collection of poetry, photographs, and artwork that explores the emotions and challenges of everyday life. Through honest reflection and vivid expression, Ellen reminds readers that they are never alone in their struggles and that life's hardships can become stepping stones toward growth and understanding.
In addition to her poetry, Ellen is passionate about creating educational resources for children and families. Her Family Time Coloring Book encourages creativity, reading, learning, and positive family connections through interactive stories and fun coloring activities. She also authored Lee y Coloréame (Spanish Edition), an innovative bilingual coloring book designed to help children ages 3–6 learn Spanish through engaging activities and QR-code pronunciation guides.
Across all of her work, Ellen's mission remains the same: to inspire, uplift, educate, and encourage others. Whether writing poetry that speaks to the soul or creating books that help children learn and grow, she believes that words have the power to heal, connect, and transform lives.
Today, Ellen McKizzie continues to write from her home in Victorville, California. Her hope is that every reader who encounters her work discovers comfort, encouragement, and the reminder that even in life's darkest moments, there is always a path forward.
