It’s crazy to me that I’ve been in the beauty industry for over 15 years now. I’ve learned SO much over the years, and I’m incredibly grateful for everything this industry has given me. ❤️

But one thing that really blows my mind is how much more expensive it is to run a business now.

My overhead, products, supplies, equipment, insurance, rent… EVERYTHING costs more. There are things that I’ve literally watched triple in price at our cost.

But I can’t just triple the price of my services. If I did, I’d be way too expensive for people, so instead, my profit gets smaller and smaller.

The amount of money I make now is honestly about half of what I used to make, even though I have more experience, more education, more certifications, and more expenses than ever before.

And there’s another side of being a business owner that I don’t think people always see.

I give A LOT out of my own pocket. I spend money on things to help other people succeed. I invest in other people, their businesses, their education, their marketing, their opportunities… because I genuinely want to see the people around me succeed.

And honestly, sometimes that hurts. Not because I regret helping people, but because I’m also trying to keep my own business going while constantly putting money back into other people.

I don’t do it because I have money to throw around. I do it because I care. ❤️

I think sometimes people see a business owner and assume they’re making way more money than they actually are. The reality is that there are products, supplies, education, licensing, insurance, equipment, rent, utilities, taxes, booking systems, and SO many other expenses that go into running a business.

I’m not saying this for sympathy. I just think it’s important to be honest about the reality of owning a small business in this industry.

And honestly… it’s rough out here. 😅

But I love this industry WAY too much to quit.

I love my clients. I love what I do. I love learning and continuing to grow. And after 15+ years, I’m still here, still investing in myself, still trying to help others succeed, and still trying to make it all work.

So please — refer your friends. ❤️

Tell your coworkers. Tell your family. Share our posts. Tag someone who needs a new stylist or esthetician. Word of mouth means MORE than you probably realize.

Because the truth is, we have to work twice as hard now just to stay afloat.
